flash v natural light

BOTH!

:D

I could drag models into the studio all day tbh, but end of the day, it's just a room with a tall ceiling and a plain wall / sheet... I think I'll always be a predominantly location shooter :)

Yes - what I meant was lighting with flash to look natural and not look like flash! :)

depends on the subject and location and time of day and lighting conditions. Natural light done well looks beautiful, however in the UK, it is very variable. If you need to tahe the portrait on Tuesday at 11.00 then you need to have the equipment to make your own moves. If you have the luxury to sit about and wait for the perfect light...

On top of that, you can do things with your own lighting that's not possible with natural lighting

I find that when doing a portrait (not models) that people are more relaxed with natural light. If someone is not used to being shot then the flash can be distracting.

My rule is to use natural light when I can but not to hesitate using flash if I need it.

somehow I prefer shooting in natural light..ties up the environment and subject nicely for me.

It entirely depends for me, if I want to do some nice model shooting in a park then natural light for me, even when it's dark it can still be dramatic. I use flash for creative portraits if necessary plus there's a fun factor involved when using flash.
