What flash triggers do you use?

With my digital kit I have the YongNuo RF-603 (for Nikon), but because of the way the pins are laid out, it doesn't support being fired from a non-TTL Nikon camera - so it won't fire from a standard hotshoe, rather annoyingly. That is something very poorly documented, but it's true.

So what flash triggers are you using with your film cameras?

You might be able to do a small mod to make it work just from the central contact of a hot shoe or from an X sync.

the only thing needed to make an RF-603*C* (probably nearly identical to my RF-603n) work as a transmitter on an ordinary single-contact hot shoe, is to solder a 120000 ohm resister between the RF-603C's Vin contact and its J6 terminal, all inside the case, to provide the j6 contact with the "TTL wakeup signal".

It seems like it uses one of the hotshoe signals to tell it to be a transmitter instead of its default receiver status when it is not on a camera's hotshoe. If your camera does not provide that signal then this mod should sort it out but it would mean that the modified unit would only ever work as a transmitter. However, that shouldn't be a problem as you always need one of them to be a transmitter.

Here is a video of the modification: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iiy4zGEt5xU

Jump to about six minutes into the video.

Ah! I've been trying to find something like that this morning, cheers.

Having had a look, it sounds a bit more messy than I'd like to do personally - and buy the time I purchase a soldering iron, some decent solder and the resistor, I could probably buy another set of triggers :bonk:

I don't know if you replied after I modified my post but watch the video from about six minutes. That is very easy to do. If you can't do it you probably know someone with a soldering iron who can.

As a last resort, if you want to post it to me, I will do it for you.

That looks pretty simple - and I can solder - I just don't own a soldering iron, and I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone who does (!).

You may have a PM coming your way...

Skyports work on my Bronica.

Thanks. I was looking at the PT-04 triggers, they look like a no nonsense way to do it. I've sent one of my triggers off to Steve to very kindly modify so it always acts as a transmitter, which should do the trick :)

I've wanted to do more interesting portrait work for a long time and hopefully this will be my stepping stone.
