hi,

I'm currently trying to figure out what kind of flash should I take. I know If you own a Nikon cam you should buy the same brand of flash as your camera same goes with canon or other brands.

I'm on a really tight budget so im considering buying third party-brand flash like Nissin's Di866 for Nikon. but most people I know is telling me not to buy third party flash or acce. because of the firmware of your camera when you update or something.

Is it also bad to use third party flash as your main flash?

Please enlighten me about this.

While I have a Nikon flash (SB600), I see no problem in the Nissin you mention, nor indeed the Jessops 360 version. Both are used by very many people here to great effect.

Don't worry about updating the firmware on your camera - how often have you done it so far?

i use a jessops 360 afd on my D7000 haven't had any probs. It's not as good as a nikon flash but plenty good enough to use

I use 3 Nissin Di622's with my D700. No problems at all, never updated any firmware on anything.

Should be fine using a third party flash, just not as good as the own brand but they get the job done.
