hi all just a couple of questions regarding a yongnuo 468 II flash on my d7100 which worked fine on my d90 but has a couple of problems on my d7100,im no flash expert

problem 1 does not show the focal length on flash. using with my nikon 18-70mm lens just shows 35mm no matter where the lens is

problem 2 tried to take some pictures of some bats which were virtually hovering, placed in manual set to f6.3 but could not get the shutter speed quicker than 1/250,but after removing flash from shoe could set speed to anything, same in s mode any ideas please

I don't know anything about problem 1, but with #2, I'm assuming the flash sync speed of the d7100 is 1/250, so you can't use a faster shutter speed than this when using flash with the camera.

thanks for that your spot on,will try another lens to see if that sorts problem 1 out,if my maximum shutter speed is 1/250 would that be enough to freeze something like a bat,or do things work out different when the flash is involved, thanks again

The flash light should freeze the action for you and then use the shutter to get the ambient stuff.

Quite a big subject this but good old Ken has a fair explanation on his site:

Also worth a read if you're looking for higher sync speeds:

Just give it a try. Borrow a model and just take some shots fairly close to them with a high shutter speed set. If you can see catch lights in your subjects eyes, then it works.
