Some fantastic shots in there but the page takes too long to load. 17 seconds on an 8mb connection. See if you can create or find a small animation or summat to hold peoples attention while the main stuff loads.

Slide Show Pro. If you buy both SSP and SSP Director its a great package. So easy to use.

The thing is with Flash-type shows, for ordinary people like me.... (did I just say that? ) if you want to add a word or something to each page, its not as easy as just an html page like jalbum or something.

Buh? Slideshowpro is just the slideshow. You can plug it in anywhere. Its not fullscreen flash. Take a look at the site for examples.

I reckon the way forward is AJAX galleries, you can achieve similar effects to flash (especially with WPF in .NET3) but you have the niceties of HTML editting as well.

You're right that it is slow right now..and when I have the time I will see how I can get it to preload more efficiently, but should it take 17 seconds on your connection?

Personally I never bothered with Director and 90% of the problems on the SSP Forums are due to Director. Handcoding or some free xml generators such as xml4ssp are my preference.

flash slideshows can be integrated directly into blogs or html pages..making the updates very easy.
Janice: your website is fine, I don't see any reason to change it. Looks great as is.

imagevue is another good one

yes, that's a very nice one...much more expensive however. SSP is inexpensive

there are many free solutions too:
SimpleViewer (Flash)
Photoblogs (PixelPost, Folderblog)
Database driven galleries (Menalto Gallery, Coppermine)
Blogs (wordpress etc.)
Javascript/DHTML/AJAX

etc.

some caveats: you do need to have Adobe Flash to produce SSP shows - and to do a trully customized slideshow you will need to get your hands dirty and understand the Flash programming language (actionscript).
