Flash Photo Galleries

Some fantastic shots in there but the page takes too long to load. 17 seconds on an 8mb connection. See if you can create or find a small animation or summat to hold peoples attention while the main stuff loads.

It loaded instantly for me on an 8mb connection. I also use SSP.

Ooh thats neat. I was thinking of using something like that to create something similar to flickr 'sets'

What software is it?

The thing is with Flash-type shows, for ordinary people like me.... (did I just say that? :D ) if you want to add a word or something to each page, its not as easy as just an html page like jalbum or something.

id love mine like that, but I sometimes want a small change and cant. :(

Buh? Slideshowpro is just the slideshow. You can plug it in anywhere. Its not fullscreen flash. Take a look at the site for examples.

imagevue is another good one

I reckon the way forward is AJAX galleries, you can achieve similar effects to flash (especially with WPF in .NET3) but you have the niceties of HTML editting as well.

You're right that it is slow right now..and when I have the time I will see how I can get it to preload more efficiently, but should it take 17 seconds on your connection?

flash slideshows can be integrated directly into blogs or html pages..making the updates very easy.
Janice: your website is fine, I don't see any reason to change it. Looks great as is.

yes, that's a very nice one...much more expensive however. SSP is inexpensive

there are many free solutions too:
SimpleViewer (Flash)
Photoblogs (PixelPost, Folderblog)
Database driven galleries (Menalto Gallery, Coppermine)
Blogs (wordpress etc.)
Javascript/DHTML/AJAX

etc.
