Hi all, when it comes to flash i know next to nothing and find myself getting really confused reading through some tutorials etc.

What i am trying to work out is the best way to set-up multiple off camera flashes and retain e-ttl functionality. (I know manual is the way to go but i am still learning)

I know it's easy enough with 1 flash and e-ttl cords or similar.

Also ideally it should work with third party flashes as i don't as that's what i am using.

Thanks

Nick

Are your 3rd party flashes capable of being fired remotely? What make, model are they?

Only manual use with those.
Pocket wizards can do ETTL but cost alot more and do they work with your flashes? 565EX i think will work but the 467 I don't think so

This is where i get confused :help:

The info on the triggers i linked to says they support e-ttl with off camera??

I just got a couple of sets of the triggers you linked to, they are full ettl as well as manual but they are for Canon not Nikon.

Learn how to use manual flash and your problems are solved. :)

Cheers, they are for a canon set up, i'll look into them a bit more.

I will learn manual eventually, but i'd like to not have to worry about flash power etc for the minute :)

I was thrown by the D70s listed as your camera.

Learning manual flash first is good advice. It will give you a much better understanding of what to do when e-ttl doesn't give you what you hope/expect.

However if you are getting triggers anyway the 622's are great (in the 2 days I've had them) and allow full manual adjustments of an off camera flash from the camera menu.
Not sure of compatibility with your 467 but I have a 565 and it is fully compatible.

Honestly there's nothing to be scared of, manual is actually easier.

Ettl or ittl, uses a reflective meter, so it can be fooled just like your camera meter is in natural light. Whereas once you set up a fixed power flash the only thing to change the exposure is the flash to subject distance. So in a studio setting, once you've set the exposure, you can concentrate on composition expression etc.

Manual is actually easier than TTL because you're dealing with power settings (1/1, 1/2th, 1/4th etc) and not mini or plus EV numbers, which is what you get with TTL set-ups.

At the end of the day, the modifiers you end up using (brollies, soft boxes) will dictate the overall power and look of the light.
