What flash do you guys recommend that is both relatively inexpensive but also a good one to buy?

Dont want to spend a lot so may look at 2nd hand.

I have a Canon 450D.

Will be using to take pics of daughter etc

I just ordered a YongNuo YN467 and a RF 602 wireless trigger from eBay. Came to about £70 I think. Has TTL flash zoom and some slave modes.

Only real down side for me was the real guide number is about 20m at ISO100.

For a starter flash this covered all my bases without breaking the bank paying for features I can't / won't use.

Edit: I was looking at the YN468 initially but YongNuo said the Nikon version will be a fair wait and is what I would have ordered if I had a Canon. Similar flash but better controls, an LCD and also a strobe mode.

Very much in the same boat as the first poster.

I'm looking to spend no more than £75 if I can help it as I don't want anything particularly special, mainly just for on body use.

I've seen the nissin Di622 for £94, which I might be willing to stretch too if you think its worth it?

Cheers

Just searching around, is the YN460 mk2 any good for £47?

The 460 doesn't support TTL. So you have set the power completely manually.

EDIT: The 465 is basically the same flash with TTL.

You're correct. Just reading around on the 460 and it doesnt have TTL (although, the seller advertising it says it does...) The 465 is going for £50 and the 467 for £63 (including P&P). Any good?

TTL...............Setting the flash in this mode, basically means the camera will work out how much flash is required. But be aware... in say Program mode the flash and camera will talk to one another and decide that it's best to forget any ambient so a minimum of 1/160 ss can be obtained. Hence the whole scene will be lit by flash. In AV mode the camera and flash will talk to each other and decide to allow for ambient light so will only output enough flash to fill-in. Hence you have a mixture of flash and ambient.

Well, I'm going to go for it and buy a wireless trigger too. If you're prepared to wait I'll let you know when it gets here (should be by Friday at the latest!) how it stacks up!

ive just ordered the 465, what trigger and reciever do i need? and what colour umbrella should i have for portraits? oh my god there is so much stuff to think about lol

Sorry its been a week, massively busy with work!

Legarm: Your best bet is to take a look on eBay. I picked mine up for £63.99 - look for the user chantelysee - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330513148045&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT. The seller was great. The flash itself is amazing. It's performing a lot better than imagined and is definitely a good budget flash.

Shanlea: i think you'll need the 601 RF triggers. Again, the guy on ebay is the best price i found.

I have also been thinking...which flash. My main concern is that the Yonguno ones on ebay have no warranty and if you do have a problem then what? Possibly send to China? I am in the same boat..cant decide!
