anybody know of a camera shop in London that sells a hotshoe adapter to fit a 580EXII and with a PC socket terminal to take a PocketWizard? Has to be one that has the little screw hole in the bottom for a light stand!
I've just read that when you use a P.W. on the 580EXII through the PC terminal, it disables the slave mechanism, so I wouldn't be able to trigger the 430EX. So thought if I use it via a hotshoe adpater, this would solve it.

Am desperate!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really important shoot this weekend and I really would rather use my flash guns rather than the Bowens portable gear, as it will just be me to setup!

I bought something very similar from the big jessops shop on New Oxford Street. I can't find them on their website but it was on a wall behind the counter downstairs. It came with a male connection on the end of a wire but I presume you're looking for one with a female connection but they may have that too.

(adding Jessops to the list!)
umm... as for the female / male thing, .... one side has to be a pc socket type, whilst the other is just the regular metal jack (like on headphones!)

I know exactly what you need, but don't know if they stock it. I got so frustrated looking for what I needed to connect up my Skyports I ended up making the flippin' thing. The only place that sold what I needed wnated £30 and didn't have it in stock.

I'd still give the jessops shop a call as they may well have it. Otherwise get in contact with The Flash Centre near Russel Square. They're not open weekends though so don't know if that's any use.

This would work I presume

580 EX II has a pc sync socket. So all you need is the hot shoe adaptor for a light stand, which you can get a Calumet for about £15 (from memory). They also have the hot shoe adaptor with pc sync socket.

Otherwise just get a ST-E2.

yea I saw that at the Flash Centre's site, and reckoned that was right. I get into London late Friday afternoon, so could rush over to them, but are they a retail premises or just a warehouse?!

edit- just saw on TFC's site they have a shop!

They have a shop, but it's a pig to find the first time you go there. If you decide to go give them a call and ask them for directions first.

linky - seems reasonably easy from the station....??

well, i'll be getting into Paddington at 4:30, so that gives me an hour to rush over lol.

I did three circuits of the Brunswick Centre first time I went there. I ended up phoning them and they talked me in. Basically they are not in the main precinct, but on the outside of it at the top. I don't think that are any other shops in that part, just back entrances and the like.

d'oh!!! :( yea from the map it looked like it was sending me on the roof!

It looks like this.....

Yeah, and when I say it's at the top I meant the top of the map/North end, not the roof.

I found it by going through Waitrose from the main part of the precinct, out the doors at the back of Waitrose and turned left. You can't miss it going that route.

Surely the 430 is the slave and the 530 is the primary ergo if you fire the 530 via a PW it doesn't need to be a slave.

apparently when you plug a receiver unit directly into the 580EXII's PC terminal, this disables the slave mechanism which would be required to trigger the 430EX which would also be used about 15' away.

so if I head for the Waitrose around there, and go out it's backdoors ....is that right?!
Is there a road that Waitrose is off of?!

that one from jessops in the linky wouldnt work as it's got a pc terminal end, rather than a jack end.

Sorry Alex, my understanding of slaves if your not using ttl is that they have an optical sensor which recognises a burst of light from one flash and fires the flash it is fitted to. If the 430 has a slave then it will will fire after it picks up the light from the 580. I think what you're talking about is that if you have a PW fitted to the 580 and another to the 430 then the 580 will only fire from the PW and not from it's slave cell picking up the flash form the 430.

Have you tried it yet or are you just going on what you've read online?

well, I did have a quick go the other day and I could have swore it worked, but off went my 'injured' 580EXII to it's new home, and today my new one arrives so will have to try it again. I was under the impression it worked as optical also... but online there were many reports about how long of a delay there was between them or not firing at all (!!!!!!).

There might be a delay but a bit of trial and error and you can see up to what shutter speed it will work. Depending on where/what you're shooting you might not find a slightly slower sped than the max sync speed a problem anyway.

Im just doing a few models standing still or with little movement in busy night scenes, so will be using a slow shutter speed to get lots of ambient light in from the surroundings.

AHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!! it doesnt work :( :( :(!! new 580EXII is here ....setup i tried it out is as such-

580EXII w/ PocketWizard plugged in via the PC terminal socket, PW is on and on channel 1 and set to remote mode, flash is set to manaul mode as Master, channel 1.

430EX is on manual, set to slave, channel 1.

when I push the red pilot button on the 580EXII, it fires the 430EX in test mode too, so the slave/master thing is working.... just that unless I take the 580EXII off of master mode, thats the only time the PW fires it, but then as you guessed, the 430EX doesnt :(. Is there something I'm doing wrong..... 'optical slave' so to speak?????
HELP!!!!

Alex,

When the 580exII is put into master mode the PC sync socket is disabled.

You can open up the bottom of the flashgun and solder a wire from the PC Sync center pin to the centre pin of the flash foot and cut the existing centre pin wire. This will enable that function... or from what i have read you can use a hotshoe adapter and this will allow the master/slave function !

But as yet havent tested it!
