Im looking into getting a speedlite 430ex for my canon 30D but wanting some advice if there an essential piece of kit that would get used on a regular occasion.
 
A flashgun can be perfect to light up what otherwise would be impossible to get the correct amount of light, and when used well, can be an invaluable piece of kit.

I haven't used mine yet, haven't had the chance to, but I know that I will be using it a lot!
 
It depends on what you are shooting...

I use mine a fair bit for action sports stuff in low light, but I didn't use it today for wildlife/landscape stuff. I also avoid using it as much as possible for portraits, until I can get PW's to get it off the camera anyway...
 
I mainly shoot family and at arenas and shows for koi carp at moment, some are inside some are out in daylight but this would also depend on weather when outside tie ambiant lighting
