Looking to buy a Yongnuo Flash for my newly acquired Canon 5D Mark3 to complete my change over from Nikon to Canon.

Which model would you suggest ?.

Get something that will work with a Fuji X camera ... it will save you cash when you next upgrade systems.

What sort of thing do you think you'll shoot with it - so we can suggest based on power.
Usually some secondhand Canon 580 EX2 around

It really depends on what you want it to do?

A couple of years ago I bought 3x 560IVs and a controller for under £200, but these are all manual only and for OCF set-ups; they all still serve me well so I can't fault the model or make

If you want on-camera & high speed sync then these would be no use to you - so really, what do you want to shoot?

Probably a general purpose o=n camera flash, fill in light nothing to fancy.

Does it have to be a yn flash, have heard good thing about the godox flashes.

YN600EX-RT II looks to be a nice spec and price is a bargain. I'm thinking of getting a couple and the transmitter YN-E3-RT for some better off camera flash control.

The Yn600 or YN685 both have inbuilt receivers, but i’m Personally switching to Godox (I’m not alone) as it’s a much more advanced system if you think you’ll ever go beyond speedlights.

What is better about the Godox system over the Yongnuo? I have not heard of the Godox. What can Godox do that Yongnuo can not very interested in your thoughts?

I still have the Yongnuo 568EX for Nikon, although only used a couple of times, I thought the build quality was very good, previous to that I also had one for my D90 and that one never missed a beat. So thought that was the way to go for the Canon. However @Phil V has now given me a quandary as I have also heard good reports on the Godox .

The Yongnuo (like most of its competitors) is a fairly narrow system.
To show the extremes, the YN600 is compatible with the Canon radio trigger system, they have their own compatible trigger too (YN-E3 RT).
The YN685 is an almost identical flash, but is compatible the the YN 622 trigger system.
Either of those 2 triggering systems are really good btw, I’ve used the YN622 triggers for years with no complaints at all.
The Godox 2.4g triggers though are part of a system that includes:
Speedlights (including a mini speedlights and some fully featured units with lithium batteries). They also build in transmitters to these.
Battery powered portable lighting solutions, in both ETTL and manual.
Mains powered studio lighting, including everything from entry level up to powerful Superfast heads.

Having bodged around mixing lighting for years, having a single system is an absolute joy.
