Flash gun

Think the time has come to add a flash gun to my kit. Can anybody suggest what things I should be looking for in a flash and/or what units to think about.
I have the canon 400Dand one of the first thing I would be trying it on is our marine fish tank.
Is the 430ex something I should consider?

Yep 430ex is fine, I use one myself.

580ex is good if you have the cash to spend, but the 430ex is still very good.

If it's your first flashgun then the 430ex is probably gonna be your best bet, it's smaller and lighter so good to get to grips with. If you decide you need the extra power and features you can always upgrade.

i been looking at this at the moment, and found that the 580 can be had for £45 more than the 430 (inc the canon cashback). (from kerso) the 430 doesnt have a cashback on it at the mo.

but pop to a camera shop and test them on the camera first, there is a weight and balance difference!

the 430 is smaller and more stupid than the 580EX

the 550EX is so strong , big and great, but eat battery so fast.
