Hi all,

I was looking for some advice about getting a flash gun, I have no idea where to start or what to look for.

I have a cannon 450D, 18-55mm lens and a 50mm 1.8 lens. I am currently learning and use the camera for general photography, and some occasional get togethers for family and friends. Once I have developed better skills and and understanding I am considering doing weddings, however I am far off that and am just enjoying learning.

I have seen a flash gun below which is around my budget of approx £70, but not sure what I need to look for or if there are better models for around the same price.

Any advice and recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.

It's a good flash to start out with. It allows TTL with your camera which will give you the opportunity to get some good shots without having to put too much thought into them. More importantly it allows manual control so you can quickly get the flash off camera with a lead or cheap trigger. That's when you really get to be creative and learn a lot more about lighting.
I would recommend that you keep an eye on the for sale section (if you have access) as you should be able to pick one of these up for less than half the new price.

I've also been looking at the same flashgun for my 500D. Is it worth waiting to access the For Sale Section and picking one up cheap?

A couple have went for £32 in the past couple of days. Personally I think the saving is worth it. And if you don't use it our outgrow it then you lose nothing.

Thanks for the advice, I will keep eyes peeled for this flash gun and may wait until I get access to try getting sone second hand ones.

you can use the 360afd as a slave too, by using your onboard flash to trigger the flash unit, should save you buying a trigger for the time being :)

Interesting, thanks edz!
