I would however like one that swivels

would you reckommend the 430EX or the 580EX

Always go for the highest power you can afford, that way if you diffuse or bounce it you'll (normally) still have enough juice to light your subject

I think you're on the right track with the dedicated Canon unit, some of the 3rd party guns don't intigrate with the camera like the Canon units.

The 430ex Mk2 is a great pocketable unit and has enough power for most jobs - I use one regularly, but the 580 is safer bet for commercial event shooting. John
