Flash gun shutter speads?

Hi,

I have been using my Sony a350 with its built in flash and i was only able to use a shutter speed of up to 1/160. I am now looking to buy a flash gun, but would this also mean i would be limited to a shutter speed of 1/160? :thinking:

probably, Nikon do a high speed flash sync, on their speedlights, not sure if sony do the same.

My s5 pro syncs at a 200th which is fine for onboard flash, but I have to reduce it to 160th with studio flash or I get a dark band (maybe the delay caused by the radio trigger?)
 
The flash sync speed of your A350 is 1/160, so the answer is yes unless you use a dedicated Sony flashgun or use the flash off-camera on a set of radio triggers.
 
Hi, thanks for the replys. Dedicated flash gun? are all the flash guns available dedicated? and what does this mean, what can they do differently compared to other flash types, shutter speads etc?
 
Dave, just FYI your S5 will sync at 1/250 just like the D200 it's mechanically based on.
The banding is indeed caused by the radio gear not tripping the flashes quickly enough, I found with the cheaper earlier generation Chinese triggers that a fading battery in the transmitter was oft responsible.
 
Thanks Deneyrec, it seems to default to a 200th when I stick the flash on, but either way its no biggie....kinda figured it was a delay in the radio trigger, thanks for confirming!!!

I've just been using mine with an SU800 on the hotshoe....at 1/250
 
yes mine is 250th now, was in the setup menu. Theres an auto fp which allows a higher shutter speed?
