Yesterday evening I noticed that I almost had to "force" my flash gun (SB-800) on to my camera's hot shoe (D90). Is there any safe lubricant I can use to make it slide in more easily?

Silly but have you checked the pins are moving freely and the lock isn't engaged? can't see how this would start happening unless something is damaged. My SB600 slides into the hotshoe quite easily (but isn't loose).

It shouldn't need forced, norr should it need lubricated

As terryt says, make sure the lock isn't engaged or that the lock pin isn't jammed.

Pins move freely and lock NOT engaged. No visible signs of damage. Just very, VERY stiff.

My God what a bunch of childish idiots you all are!!! I got a sensible answer from a Nikon representative on another forum... but I really can't be bothered sharing that valuable info with people like you!

I've been a member of these forums for some years but have rarely posted because of the extremely low levels of intelligence to be found here. This thread is further proof!

Goodbye

My god get a sense of humor. To be honest if you have to take yourself so serious all the time i think most people here would rather you didnt post.

Your lack of social skills and humor to me demonstrates the lowest level of intelligence i have found on this forum. Everyone here is a friendly bunch and yes from time to time we will have a laugh and a joke so rather than insulting people you do not know why not just get over your self and have a laugh.

Must be why I like it!

Now I did google "Safe Lubricants", but TBH I don't think you would like the results, they may be a little childish.

Well, Bob Singleton, we will miss you...............................

What a ****!

There is only one thing worse than being picked on, being ignored, at least he got some replies, and I thought they were amusing, still, I would have liked to have known the answer.

......I would have liked to have known the answer.

I would have thought something like graphite powder would have been suitable - but I don't know for sure, so don't rush out and try it nor lube anything else just to find out

My God, what a tediously boring old fart you are. Do you own an M&S polyester cardigan, a pipe and a pair of comfy tartan slippers as well?

Anyway, this thread cant be considered to have proper innuendo in it until someone mentions the stiffness in their extendable zoom!

Avforums? I don't think that advice was conclusive nor necessarily recommended. If you've rarely posted then you've not contributed much and therefore might not have understood some of the humour that occasionally breaks up what would otherwise be just another boring technical forum.

If you'd have bothered reading rather than jumping on your high horse you'll have found there was some good advice offered and there may have been further suggestions coming based on your feedback.

I guess you have to accept some people are just born wearing driving gloves.

I thought an innuendo was an Italian suppository:eek:

On a more serious note, I'm not too sure about using graphite powder. I think it may conduct electricity (been a long time since I did science at school) and could cause all sorts of problems with the contacts.
