Flash gun firing but black pictures!

According to the EXIF data the flash fired on the third shot, the only real difference I can see between that and the 4th one is the iso :shrug:

I'll take it back to the shop and see what they suggest. Maybe see if they'll let me test another one on my camera.

There are optical triggers available that ignore the pre-flash, I'll maybe see if I can get some to try

only ones O know of are firefly triggers, they need a certain amount of time after the flash to reset themselves (5sec I think) which makes them real annoying though for the applications where you need to slave off ttl its worth it

if it works it could be dead handy, espesh for the ettl ocf peeps as it can be used to manually light small elements in the frame

am i missing something? surely although it looks like the flash did,nt fire there should have been some detail in the shot, even if badly under exposed. this looks like the shutter did,nt open i.e. camera problem not flash.:shrug:

There is some detail there, it's just very, very underexposed....

As FITP said, there is an image there. I could have taken it with a longer shutter speed show it more but I thought 1/60 was a good safe speed for the test.

It does seem like its a pre flash going off

RESULT!

Took the flash back to Jessops in Ballymena. The guy got me to take a shot with it and then brought out another 360 flash to try. It worked first time so he just stuck it in the box and handed it to me.

Excellent service guys!

Thanks for all the advice and help. I learnt alot about flash photography reading and trying various things whilst trying to get a solution.
