Flash gels

Does anyone have a recommendation for which flash gels to buy?

I have seen some CTO's by Honl for around £17 which seem a little expensive or is it a case of "you get what you pay for"?

£17 is a lot, in the end it is just piece of plastic. Look at Rosco strobist kit (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/buy-rosco-strobist-filter-collection/p1519960). Fits 580EXII quite nicely, also have mix of different gels (e.g. CTO/CTB/ND etc.). If you prefer to get larger sheets of gels, look at Lee made gels.

This might be a silly question but can flashguns be set off manually with gel strips, while moving about as the shutter is left open on camera ?

You mean leave the shutter open for a long time, and fire the flash at your subject manually while you move about (so firing it at different angles)?

If so, yes, the gels just change the colour of the light output from the flash.

Yeah that's right mate, I didn't know if there's a button on the side or not, even though I've used a nissin TTL before lol

Nor me, but I would guess that they have a manual mode - it will only work in TTL when it's attached directly to a camera - IE hotshoe or hotshoe cable. So off camera it will be manual, just need to make sure there's a way of adjusting the power.
