Flash for D60 - Off camera?

Hi All,

Apologies for my woeful lack of knowledge - believe me I have tried and failed to understand which flashgun is going to be best for my needs.

I am looking for a flashgun to be used with my Nikon D60. I like taking macro shots so am aiming for something that can be used off camera. Can anyone give me a shove in the right direction please - I have been looking at the SB-600 but I'm not sure it does what I want it to... or that it does but I would need to get extra gubbins (triggers?) to make it work.

yes yuo would need triggers, in your case ebay triggers or "poverty wizards" as some prefer will do nicely. as for flash, im a sony man but i hear most nikon users recommend the sb-600. hoped this helps
 
This is what I would do. In fact it is what I do with Canon kit.

Get yourself the biggest Nikon flash you can afford. They really are excellent and will open up your photography in so many ways.

For macro, stick a RingFlash Adapter/Ray Flash on the front. Like this http://www.flaghead.co.uk/pages/ringflash-intro.html

There's also another version about that looks identical but much cheaper called a Coco RingFlash http://www.amazon.com/Coco-Adapter-SB-900-Digital-Cameras/dp/B001PNMCYS

They work really well both for macro and fashion-style portraits and retain full i-TTL without any extra triggers or cables.

Thankyou - I'll have a look for these ebay triggers I've been hearing about.

Oooh now that does look interesting - looks like they only fit the more expensive Nikon flash-guns but I like the concept. Thanks Hoppy :thumbs:

This was lit with a off camera sb600 with a lambency diffuser:)

Check out Flash In The Pan's ad for strobist gear - cheap cables, Lambency etc
