Well I wasn't doing very much tonight so thought i would share my experiments with a flash and some diffusers.

The method was WallE on the kitchen work top, camera on tripod. fstop and shutter speed were set so the EV was level at zero. Then I used differnt flash settings repeated with the flash at different angles with different diffusers. This resulted in 38 photos :gag: anyway i thought i would share and you can see the difference the flash makes to the picture.

Processing = import to LR, export at size 800 tiff, into PS added text, into LR to add boarder and watermark.

These are the diffusers

And this is the first image with out flash

I also have the results for the angled flash with the diffusers at the differnt flash setting if any ne is intrested i will post them here for you.

Hope this is of some use.

I like the no diffuser, 45 degrees, and manual 1/1
makes the WallE just stand out, with a pure white background :)

Interesting comparision Ruthie
though you do seemed to have scared the crap
outta your subject, or is he just blinded by you "flashing him" so many times ? :D

Jamie - the idea is to learn about the lighting and the effect of the diffusers / angle of the flash. But your not wrong some of the effects are cool.

Thanks Chris hope you found it useful :)

It was brought to my attention that the manual flash setting were confussing the issue and to show the effects of the diffuser and the angle i should just use the eTTL versions so i have eddited the thread. :)

hope that make it mroe useful.
