I bought one of these a while ago, had a few goes using it with the flash mounted in the hotshoe and always seem to end up with red-eye issues when shooting anywhere near level with the subject. I think a reasonable solution might be a flash bracket to offset the angle so as to avoid the red-eye issues. I'd need to be able to shoot handheld like this so something relatively compact/light would be required.

Anyone using one of these and found a suitable bracket for mounting the flash that could be used this way?

Cannot comment re: suitable off camera flash bracket.

But the only example setups I have seen where a Better Beamer is used have been on the hot shoe.......................plus the application has been for wildlife, especially bird photography and I certainly don't recall reading of red eye with any flash usage and wildlife. Green eye maybe with cats but red eye???

I hope you can find a bracket solution to suit your application?

Edit - it got me wondering and one discussion I found was here https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=287.0

When I said red eye I was being generic (sorry should probably have been more specific), I mean reflection back from the retina of the subject's eyes - colour varies by subject :)

Edit: thanks for the link, I'll take a look

I think that given the subject distance, you’d need more than a bracket to increase the distance far enough from the lens.

From what I have seen, a lot of the American Wildlife togs use the Wimberley Brackets https://www.tripodhead.com/products/flash-bracket-main.cfm

Also available here https://www.wexphotovideo.com/search/?q=wimberley&search_type=All

Not cheap, but I've never had a bad Wimberley product to date.

Or, you go down the cheap route an get one from those well known shopping sites.

Thanks for that, I didn't even know Wimberley did flash brackets TBH, I'm familiar with the gimbals, Arca plates, etc. but I'll take a look and baulk at the prices then see if there's a cheaper but similar alternative that might suit. Can't argue with the quality, but the prices can be a little eye watering! :)

Thanks Phil, that's a thought - I think I'm going to have to take the kit out again (if I ever get a break with the weather) and see what results I get at different angles remotely triggering the flash to see what works.
