Flash advice needed

My friend is wanting a flash, nothing super special and not stupid money. He has a canon 450D so it needs to fit canon. But one of the main things is it needs to work with the Yongnuo RF-602 trigger set-up as we have just got a set!

can anyone recommend a flash ???


Any help in this would be great
 
If you're using RF602s then it doesn't matter if it's Canon fit or not, you can use any (except Sony/Minolta) flashgun that has a trigger voltage under 12 volts...
 
They all work with the RF-602s so that's not an issue. However they'll all be fully manual as well, regardless of how fancy your flash is. My recommendations:
1) You need a flash with manual power settings. Otherwise it will always fire at 100% power when connected to the 602 and you don't want that.
2) If you only have one flash, makes sense to get a E-TTL one to allow for automatic flash exposure when on-camera or with an off-camera cord. This lets you shoot changing situations like parties etc. Manual flash is a PAIN if you're not in a fixed setting.

With those in mind, Canon 430ex would probably be a good choice. Or a YN-465. I would buy the 430ex as it will also work later with wireless TTL and in multi-flash autoexposure setups as well if your friend gets serious about off camera flash.
 
For TTL I'd go for a YN-468

For a manual flash I'd look for a second-hand Canon 430EZ, or a new YN-460 or YN-460II. The 430EZ is a nice flash, very positive controls (slider on-off switch, the power switch being the biggest weakness of the rubber-keyed YN flashes) and it's often overlooked because you can't over-ride the sleep mode - however the RF-602 will reliably wake a sleeping 430EZ.

For use with the RF-602 it doesn't really matter which way you go of the ones above, but for maximum potential for minimum spend it would be the YN-468.

Ive got a 550EX but only use it for motorsport on TTL and dont no that much about flash's and thats why i decided to ask on here.
