Fjords Cruise

Hey all,

In Bergen today. We have had some tough weather to boot, force 9 windows and choppy seas.

We were an hour late today but we eventually did dock. Bergen is a lovely place as you have said.

Regarding the internet issue, I'm on three and currently Norway is one of their feel at home destinations therefore I do not pay for calls it internet it just comes out of my allowance, the only downside is that I cannot tether.

Bergen looks really nice! My cruise docks at Bergen (later this year) - it it easy to get from the docks to the town? I've found some cruise ports can be a bit of a hike from some towns!

Yeah it is, I'll do a full review and report back when I'm back home. We did a walking tour and a ride in the funicular railway. You can do it on your own if you really wanted to.

Where we docked in Bergen it was about a 5-10 minute walk into town.
That was walking past the Old Quay and Fort which are very interesting, but there are several places where the liners dock in Bergen.

Great to hear your having a goos time Dylan!

Hi, enjoying this thread, did a Norway cruise for a week last year, sadly before I got my dSLR and started learning to use it. That said, even with an old olympus point and shoot ( and Galaxy S3) I managed to get a fair few decent pics.

We visited Geiranger and went on a bus trip up to Dalsnibba, unfortunately in a torrential downpour!

Skjolden was beautiful however, incredible colours, water and land. It has a custom cruise dock, though there isn't much to do there apart from admire the scenery ( on a few hours stop)

Stavanger is an odd place, mainly an oil town ( think Aberdeen!) but with the original old town preserved. Cobbled streets and white clapboard houses, I jumped off the ship ( not literally) as soon as possible in the morning, and managed to avoid the crowds, later on it was swarming with folk.

Enjoyed the Oslo stop, mainly for the Opera House, a stunning modern building (if you like that sort of thing)

This was my first cruise, and was worth it for the scenery alone. I was less keen on the cruising holiday itself, but that's just down to personal preference.

I'd recommend Norway to anyone, and even a cruise for getting about, though if I went back, I think I'd hire a car or camper and tour about. :)

Hi Jon,
Never got to Stavanger, maybe next time. It is a stunning country and i would like a land based holiday there with more time to Photograph the landscapes. Cruises are limiting in that aspect as you dont have much option with the light.... you get what you get.
However staying in Norway is an expensive buisness, which is a shame as its a beautiful place.

Likewise, but from visiting Oslo ourselves and from friends that have driven there (from Gothenburg where we are) it just sounds way too expensive! We have thought about taking a big cold box with food, but still not sure if do-able. We have been to other side of Norway on the Swedish border that was pretty impressive.

I have been looking into a economical way of doing it !!?? The Lofoten Islands is a really stunning area and a well known Holiday area for Norwegians, its well sorted with camping areas and what they call Fishermans cottages. These used to be the old original Fishermans cottages and have now all pretty much been converted to Holiday Homes.... Still quite expensive, but the scenery is stunning.

Hi all!

I'm back!!!!

Lovely scenery all the time, its weird coming back to reality. I have created a separate thread for those who are interested. Loads of photos and advice for anyone looking to go to the Fjords.
