So fixer is definitely passed it, the film base is still a little pink I never noticed till I compared it to some stuff from a few months ago.

Everything has been cut up and put away so drying will be a pain, so is it worth refixing?
 
Yes, just do a bit at a time, wash dry and store will take a while but at least you know it will be ok

I thought that pinkish/purplish negatives were a sign that the negatives could use more washing, not necessarily more fixing?

I agree with RJ, if my films are ever purple after washing its because I didnt wash them for long enough. My fixer went off after I debeloped some film back in January and the whole film still had a metallic sort of shine to it and the image wasn't visable.

If the base its transparent and clear with a hint of colour left, I'd rewash for a few minutes and see if the issue clears (pun fully indended because I'm hilarious)

Ah, now I thought that the greyish tinge (I'm colour blind, pinkish looks greyish to me and purple doesn't exist :D) was lack of fixing and I often pop the film back in the fixer after washing. But I then re-wash them so it might be that you are correct and its more washing that clears them.
 
Odd, I used exactly the same method I always do.

Will it effect the image? Yeah I know, stop bring lazy...
 
I've had pink negs on several occasions and found its been my slack attitude to washing them......i tend to be impatient!

Initially i was convinced it was a fixing problem so would refix then wash again which did resolve the problem, however on one occasion, having removed the spiral from the tank to find tinted negs, i replaced them, washed some more and hey presto tint free negs. I knew then that my washing process had to become more disciplined although i have to confess i occasionally try and rush that stage only to shoot myself in thé foot!
 
I think the majority of my negs are purple... I'm too impatient and want to get them dry and in the scanner as soon as I can! :lol:

I have read that not washing them properly means that you'll have problems with them in a few years, but I can't recall what the reason was and I have no idea if it's actually true...
 
Just found this:::

the purple color is residual anti-halation dye. It's nothing to be too concerned about. However, it does bring into question your fixing and washing, as others have mentioned. Fresh fixer with proper time and agitation, and plenty of water wash might clear the dye more completely.
 
Fixer dissolves away undeveloped halides (which is why it fixes the image) but it will also work - albeit more slowly - on developed silver as well. That's why over fixing can damage the image. If not removed, the fixer will still be able to react; although without a solvent it will have a harder time moving around the film :).

Yes, it's the dye used to prevent light being reflected from the film base back into the image. Some films are more stubborn than other when it comes to removing the dye.
 
It's very odd, I use the same method I use for final wash on every film I have for years, the only variable is the fixer which is far from fresh.
