It used to be the case that most of the contaminants that ended up on DSLR sensors was internally generated, as in bits of oil, plastic or whatever that came off the moving parts. I assume that manufacturers have made efforts to reduce this but even if most sensor contamination is no longer due to the camera itself I bet it's still a significant factor and if it is it doesn't matter if you never change your lens as you'll still end up with dust bunnies sooner or later and of course stuff can get in via other routes than the lens mount such as the gaps around controls and eventually find its way to the sensor.
