this might be only for the mac version of firefox and also i've only tried this on FF3, but it works.

previously i found that safari views jpegs with much better colour than firefox. But if you try this, you can make firefox render jpegs as good as safari

load up firefox
type "about:config" in the location bar
type "color_management" in the filter
set "gfx.colour_management.enabled" to true
restart ff

hhmmm....

don't have that option in FF2 (for windows)

:(

oh - ok BB - I'll go back into my corner :)

On Windows FF3 and Safari are the only (AFAIK) colour managed browsers available. It can make a big difference to how images are displayed esp. if they're not in sRGB colour space.

Great post.
Seems to work with ff3 and vista

Ive just changed this on FF3 and Vista, although I didn't really notice anything 'untoward' before. Shots didnt look washed out to me (or at least I didn't notice anyway)

If anything the situation is better on the Mac than on Windows as Safari is colour managed by default, not something you can say about IE :(

yeah, thats the whole thing.. safari is, but FF isnt. So FF produces jpegs that look nothing like as good as safari

Ive just updated from ff2 to ff3 and now the piclens add-on doesnt work :( I liked that it was cool :(

Bear in mind that FF3 is still only in Beta, and there are extra security procedures now in place to stop rogue plugins.

Plugins are becoming more and more compatible by the day, but for the moment you'll either have to sit tight and wait, OR there is a way to force older plugins to run (I assume it's telling you it's not compatible, or that it doesnt provide secure updates).

I forgot how I did it, but a quick google will reveal all....

Work around:

Do not un-install FF 2
Install FF3 Beta 4
Perform the about:config setting adjustments to FF3 Beta 4
Do not un-install FF3 Beta 4
Go back and use FF 2

If you now check in about:config the gfx.colour_management.enabled will be there in FF 2, and your plugins work.

Hope that makes sense
