Fish Eye Lenses on Ebay

Rubbish. IQ is, well, rubbish. Use mine as an ashtray!!

Thought that would be the answer and with that in mind what would be a decent one to buy and are there any decent ones that work in this way rather than buying a full lens?

I have two of this sort of thing. One is good and the other is really pretty poor and therefore just for novelty use.

I think that that "For Nikon..." is misleading as really all you need to know is the diameter of the thread and the multiplication factor. The price seems about right but to be honest I paid the same for the poor one as I did for the good one, a personal recommendation may therefore be useful before buying.

I don't shoot Nikon so I'm certainly not up to date with Nikon lenses. Having said that they're going to be in the same ball park as Canon kit as far as price and quality goes. I'd guess your looking at approaching £500 for a decent fish eye lens?

Sorry Phil, £29 or so isn't going to buy you a lot

Having said that... I used to use a Canon wide angle converter on a Sony F707 and it wasn't actually bad. Cost about £150 second hand though!

Wide angle adapter lenses are junk - I've seen many mixed reviews for them but they have always been misleading; at best I put it down to a substantial lack of experience by the user, more worrying is deliberate misrepresentation.

I've tried a few over the years and been let down by all - they exhibit extensive Chromatic Aberration and strong blurring.

I wish I could suggest a cheaper alternative, opposed to investing in a dedicated lens but sadly I can't...

If you look in the GF1 thread you'll see some of these. Believe me...some aren't bad but some are not good...The last one I bought is actually quite good.

Raynox used to make a similar wa lens that was ok. Have a search for one on ebay, amazon etc. I have a couple of Raynox lenses on my Nikon 995 and they are more than acceptable quality!

Wide Angle optics push consumer level equipment into a higher price bracket if image quality is important.

Any WA converter/adapter lens is a compromise and you will experience Chromatic Aberration and image blurring/distortion regardless of the optical quality of the adapter - the mismatch between the focal lengths are a physical limitation that can't be avoided.

It's up to you whether the results are acceptable or not.

Thanks all for the feedback. The level im at atm doesnt warrant spending big money on such items so i'll look out for a budget one that someone can recommend.
Thanks, Phil

Bought one .......... sent it back ............ didn't fit (even tough it said it would) ... complete and utter crap .......... you get what you pay for

Hire a real one first and see if you like it ............ they are hard to use and often just a quick ............. Oooooooooohhhhh . I fancy one of them

Secondhand Sigma ƒ/4 8mm is a bit more than the Samyang, but as chazza says, it may well be a type of lens you rarely use once you've got it.

I seem to have gotten into quirky ultra wide angle portraits so am thinking of a fish eye myself.. might have to have a look at these.
