Basically I have a Sony Alpha A200, my boyfriend bought me a 52mm wide angle lens off ebay (sometimes a bad choice i knowwww) but anyways, my 55 to 52mm adapter came today so I can attach my fisheye lens (or filter blah blah blah) and I went to use it and its just not focussing itself, even in Manual focus and Auto focus... just wondering what the hecks going on basically haha!

this is a shot my boyfriend took with the lens on to show what it's coming out like :)

and this is the fisheye -

it also has a macro lens that attaches to the fisheye,
here's an ebay link to the fisheye also -

macro doesn't focus either, tried that part of the lens on it's own
and taking it on manual focus it takes but like the above image it's coming across majorrrrly blurred, on autofocus the fisheye alone and macro alone just don't take

Doesnt look very fisheye either...

It's not a proper fish eye it's a filter kinda thing apparently

I'm new to all this....

Are you absolutely sure its out-of-focus rather than camera shake ?

Positive, put it on a tripod to make sure it wasnt :)

Have you tried it without that CPL you have on it aswell?

Tried it without as well, same problem :(

How close to the car was he when he took it? Might just be too close to focus?

If you too close to focus on something, then none of it will be in focus will it.

Zoom was right out and I'd say about 3 meters away

Also just attached the macro lens to the Fisheye part and it stayed in focus but the shots weren't wide angle :/

The "macro" bit will act as a magnifying glass, so it wont be wide angle. Its almost certainly a focusing issue.
Tomorrow when its light, put the main lens at the widest (18mm if I remember rightly from your other thread) and try taking some shots at varing distances of the subject. Get right up close, and further away, see what happens. Try the same with the main lens zoomed in to it max and see what happens. Try manual focus and autofocus for each shot at a different distance.

Soooo, add on lenses that refocus (as opposed to filter) should be of the correct radius no?

I think Charlatan is correct. The step ring has moved the filter too far away from the lens so it cannot focus on the car. Have you tried focussing on something closer?

Could it be that you have a 52mm filter on a 55mm lens?

Presume that's why the OP has the vignetting effect around the edges.

I've used these kid of things before, and whlist the corners are usually rubbish, they at least produce reasonably sharp images.

If a sharp image can't be had anywhere in the focal range, I'd suggest the fish eye filter is faulty. But as others have suggested, try subjects at different distances.

Edit: The bit about the step ring moving the fish eye bit too far away also makes sense...

They shouldnt used at all IMO, but there we go, people buy them and expect results. Just trying to help get a half decent image out a £20 peice of junk.

Aye :)

I think the point about the step ring shifting the focal point of the lens is probably most pertinent here...

Yeah hence why I bought the adapter

Yeah just didn't focus at all.... :(

Yes, but the adapter is what is stopping it from working...

I think the long and short of it is that there isn't a fix - you need to buy the correct sized 'lenses' in the first place.

I had a nikon a while back and had a sigma Fisheye which was worth about £500 so basically I sold all my nikon stuff, bought an entry level Sony and was hoping to spend a little less on getting some at least half decent shots. I'm not looking to be spending £500 on a brand new Fisheye lens just to take a few pictures of a car tbh....

Yeah that was my mistake :/

There is a reason why the Sigma is £500 and this is £20.. I think youve found it.

Actually, these sort of addons can be quite fun (if you ignore the edges and CA)!

I've only taken mine out the once (!), and it was when I was first starting out, so you'll have to excuse the technical faults

Mine is more of the thicker type, and was screwed onto the front of an old manual focus Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35/2.4 on my a100.

may be you will have to make do with using effects in photo editing programs till you can sort out a fish eye lens
