Hi All,

I've been looking around for a decent tripod the past couple of weeks, but everything I seem to look at has mixed reviews. I've only been into photography for about 6 months, so I don't really know what I'm looking for to be fair!

Anyone able to recommend something decent to start off with? Or give me a few pointers?

Cheers!

I'm sure plenty of people will recommend one in future posts, but take a look at what you need it for. Do you want a heavy/sturdy tripod that can take a bit of a beating? Or would you prefer a lighter tripod that's easier to carry around and travel with. Think about what features you want aswell. I spent over £100 on mine but I regret buying a tripod that doesn't have a centre column that can move to the horizontal.

I think bang-for-buck, probably the best you'll get would be a Red Snapper.
The difference between the 283 and 284 is that the 283 has 3 sections to each leg and the 284 has 4 meaning it folds down smaller.
Many people on here have them and I've not come across one negative post about them.
The guy who sells them is also a member on here.
I bought a Cullen one from another forum member recently as it came up for sale in the classifieds section but if I hadn't I'd have bought the 283.

I'll second the redsnapper :-)

Cheers for the advice. I've just ordered one of the RS-284s
