Well, i`ve built my own website, or rather used a clunky site builder from fasthosts. I know its not brilliant, but for a websitebuildingignoramus like me, it will do.

It is very much in its infancy and the builder is very restrictive in where I can place things, anyhoooooz, here it is.

http://www.wildlifenorthwest.co.uk/index.html

Just gotta learn how to make my own now rather than use the inhouse builder.

CC welcome, but please don`t forget that I have never built a website before and do not know all the technical terms.

The site looks really good to me, the images on it are great!

I see you have photo's of a Heron, I've never done much wildlife photography, except when it kinda falls into my lap when I'm out and about. I've seen a Heron down the River Clyde quite a few times, can't really get close to it from the bank though, how easy spooked are Herons? I have a set of waders from my fishing days, I was thinking about trying to get close to it that way, but wasn't sure if it would just fly away if I got too close?

I think the secret is to imagine how you want users to see the pictures and then make it easy for them to do that. You need to balance clicking down many levels of menu against cluttering a page with too many images. And don't make your users scroll down the page - it's off putting. I don't like the font very much. Also do make sure that Word does not indicate spelling and grammar mistakes in the text.

I think you did a good job. You've covered lots of types of photography. I would split the Norway page into two - with the glacier being on a page of its own.

I hope this helps. Keep experimenting and the site will get better.

It's a Yellowhammer btw... i reckon

Thanks guys,all points noted.

@CarlukeDave

Herons in the wild, away from reserves and the like, are very hard to get near as they have amazing eyesight.I tend to get down low next to the river and wait for them to come to me.

looks pretty cool to me Ade
The only 2 comments I would make (Not that I could do any better)
1) the thumbnails look a little noisey
2) once clicked on the image for a larger version you have to press the back browser button, would it be better to have the full size images open in a new page? ( the option should be somewhere around "hyperlink properties")

I can only have the pics link to a new page every time or the same page with a "back" button. Rather than having too close multiple pages if you look at a few photos, I thought it better to use the application that I have, either way it is a PITA I agree..........

No worries as I said better than I could do

You may like to know that on my widescreen monitor it only covers half the screen from the left, the rest is empty yellow.

Your right, I have changed it to three columns now.It appears that is the most I can do. I now need to suss out how to change the front page..............:bonk:

I have done some messing about in there, the builder is very prohibitive on where it lets me put stuff. Without wanting to start off like a certain other thread.....:D...........does it look any better?

It is basic I know.........:)
