Hi All,

i have decided to finally move my behind this year and check what the fuss is all about :) I have rented Nikkor 80-400 and bought ticket for Saturday qualifying at Silverstone.

As it is my first time, i would really appreciate any advice on best location for my first take on motorsports. Also any additional tips (camera settings/panning techniques) are more than welcome.

Thanks,

Mariusz

Grandstand or GA ticket? If the latter there's very few places to get close ups - just probably at the viewing area at Luffield would be you best bet but they're going really slowly then.
If grandstand ticket you have a few more options at Club, Village (or whatever they call it now) and perhaps Copse.
Talking about avoiding the fence with these! Have fun

Thanks... Lets also see what the weather is going to be like....

Oh yeah and the ticket is just GA.

Hey,

I'm off to Silverstone for Saturday aswell, you're more than welcome to meet up and have a blast together?

Sure, I'll try to be there first thing in the morning. I'll drop you a message with my number, just drop me a text on Saturday.

Fantastic mate :) I went last year but want to wander around this year and try different things opposed to being stuck in one place :)

Sounds like a plan...

Can't understand anyone who goes to any race meeting and stays in the same place all day!

I'm going tomorrow morning and staying till Monday. Grandstand seat for the race is Farm Curve. Last Grand Prix I went to was Brands Hatch so many years ago. Really looking forward to it, hope you all have a good time.

On race day you don't even get the opportunity to move I'm affraid :( That's why I've chosen Quali this year so I can have a wander :)

maybe check the latest news and set off early:

Unless spectators have PRE-BOOKED park and ride or are in local campsites and able to walk to the circuit we strongly advise that they do not attend the qualifying day of the 2012 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix.

whats going on there? seems like a nightmare reading their FB page...

I think the forecast is for a wee bit of rain this weekend, take a few plastic bags for the ultimate boho fashion raincover come kneeling pad.

BBC tonight were saying (via Jake Humphey at Silverstone) that all 20000 GA ticket holders for Saturday must not try and attend if travelling to Silverstone, there is no parking available or any vehicular access to the site for them.

Sounds like a nightmare! I have paid for parking access, what now. I'm setting off at 5am, will see....

Take earplugs..............and wellies!

Was F1 at Silverstone not under threat a few years back, because the parking facilities were utter crap ??

don't set off now:

People with general admission/roving or grandstand tickets who do not have park and ride and were planning to arrive by car should not attempt to approach the circuit as they will turned away and could be stuck in heavy traffic for many hours.

So, after ringing Silverstone's info line last night I decided to watch it on TV this time. I am bit disappointed though. Silverstone's authorities only spent £1m since 2000 (very similar weather conditions spoiled GP for thousands of fans) to improve parking and camping facilities. C'mon people for heavens sake, this is England, it always rains here!!!! Hundred of thousands fans coming over to enjoy GP, organisers earn hundreds of millions on these events; situations like these are unacceptable when it comes to most prestigious motor sport of them all....

No Bernie makes hundreds of millions, Silverstone will take the hit for this, Bernie won't see a penny reduction in his money (allegedly)
