Hi

I'm about to buy myself a DSLR, and i think it's gotta be a Canon. I've used a few 400d's and a 5d, and found them to be truly excellent cameras and great fun.

I've currently got a S5700 Fuji Bridge camera, and i think the DSLR is the logical step.

I've been using camerapricebuster and googling a lot, and i think i have a budget of about £440 MAX!

Now, do i buy the better camera, and the standard lens, or the 1000d and two lenses?

Please have a look, let me know, and if you want to add anything else into the mix to confuse me even more, feel free!

I have a choice - 450d with 18-55mm IS Kit lens.
£429.95 + 2yr warranty + Canon Bag + £50 cashback

or

1000d with 18-55mm IS Kit Lens + 55-200mm Sigma lens.
£322.97 + 2yr warranty + £30 cashback + £95 Sigma

??

It depends what sort of photography you're going to do as to which of those bundles will be better. If you're going to do mainly landscape and portrait photography, for example, then the 18-55mm lens will probably be enough. If, however, you want to do wildlife or sports photography, you're going to need at least a 200mm lens. The 450D body is marginally better than the 1000D, but I wouldn't have thought there was much in it.

Erm, it gets expensive, and you tend to get what you pay for. Ask around on here before buying lenses or stuff like that, people will be happy to offer advice and experiences. And enjoy it and experiment with new things.

Get youself a cheap second-hand 300D from the for sale forum & but some decent glass for it .......

:whistling:

does the budget include what you can get for the fuji on fleabay?

Also, I would agree with what others have said. I bought the 40d, and while I use a lot of the settings, could have managed perfectly well with the 450.

Save now on the body and get good glass, then you can upgrade later.

When getting new glass - if you have a nagging thought at the back of your mind that this is not "exactly" the lens you want - you will upgrade, so buy what you want/need first.

No, the budget doesn't include what i can get for the Fuji, but only because i'm keeping it!

So - to start with i'm better off buying the camera WITH kitlens, as opposed to body only?

And that lenses are more important than the camera.

Personally, i feel i'd like to buy the actual camera new, so i get a warranty etc. Sorry, but that's generally the way i do things.

Lenses, im sure i'll buy used, because of prices, but i don't think my parents would be too keen if i spent that much on a used item (i know you do on a car, but that's different!!!)

if it was me I would buy a second hand body and lens, think what you want to take pics mostly of and get a lens to suit, a freind of mine bought the 450 kit and has bought another lens already as he wanted more reach.

I don't know what the difference between the 1000D and the 450D is, but I do know that you would probably be better off getting the Sigma 70-300mm APO lens if you go for a twin lens kit. MUCH better lens than the one you posted up.
