Hello. Im looking at getting my first speedlite. I photograph a few stationary cars. I have been using a maglite torch but im finding it hard to balance the light over the whole car. Ive noticed a lot of people use speedlites and I like the results I see. Ive managed to sell something off my old trials bike which will give me £40 to spend on one. Any recommendations?

That's a low budget for a flash. There's possibly a Yongnuo TTL available second hand. Check eBay.

if you're looking to do that sort of thing you don't need TTL you need to be able to manually control the lighting, not let the camera make judgements for you.
if you're painting with light can't you just use an old flash and do it all manually?
decent low budget flashes are about 100 quid new for YN.

As DizMatt said, you don't need TTL for that. And as Phil said £40 is too low budget for a speedlite. I'd also recommend a Yongnuo. I have the 460 and the 460II. Both are good manual flashes and both should be in your budget. The 460II has the larger guide number, so i'd go for that...
