First question

Hi

Please understand i am completely new to photography and know nothing much really. My first question is, with depth of field and setting F nos.

i know when taking pic of item you can get your required depth of field. but should i be using a narrow aperture F number, if item is far away from camera say quarter of a mile. something like F10 or F16.. or can i still use F 4 to gain good sharpness. an not worry how far the subject is away.

There are so many things which affect depth of field. Distance to subject, lens used, aperture, even the different sized sensors in different cameras. Have a look at this
