Hi everyone,

Had a quick go on Photoshop, think it's gunna take quite a few hours swearing at layers until I get the hang of it, all good fun though! :bang: lol

Here was one I had a little play with:

And here's a moth I snapped on my front door the other night:

Very basic I know, but we've all got to start somewhere!

On a side note, getting my 55-250 lens today, excited! Hurry up Mr Delivery man...

Cheers all for looking,

Ryan

It's all about practice, the more you use it the more you'll learn, and the easier it gets.

I`m with you on the swearing at the computer when using photoshop it`s not as easy as people think

It does get a bit easier the more you use Photoshop. There are lots of good tutorials on the web which help, but to be honet a good book makes one hell of a difference.

Look for ones by Martin Evening or Scott Kelby, my personal preference is for Martin.

Time and patience - neither of which I have

Lots of tutorials on youtube, I find videos are really helpful for learning stuff.

Just did a bit of sharpening and selected the house then adjusted the levels ;)

Search NGage70 on YouTube, this user has posted 17 6-10 minute videos starting from basics and building up a range of techniques, I'm very very much a beginner myself and I find them useful as I work through learning various techniques. A good book is a real help to as said by Chappers above, there are dozens on Amazon, I chose the one by Scott kelby and I'm working through it chapter by chapter and I'd be bloody lost without it to be honest !

I'm fairly new to photoshop myself and have to say Scott Kelby books and video tuts are great, i've learnt so much from them - love the no nonsense funny approach!

The biggest problem for newbies and PS is that even if you know the look you're going for there is and extremely powerful and complex program standing in your way. Either that or you know the program inside out and don't know how you should process the photo. The key to good processing is knowing what the program is capable of and how to do it - something that only comes with practice. Look for tutorials on the type of processing that you want to do. There are literally millions of tutorials on the web for PS and it's a right minefield if you don't have an idea of what you're trying to achieve.

I've spent years learning PS as a digital artist then photographer and the best advice i can give you is:

1) Learn how layers work.
2) The power of layer masks.
3) Curves.
4) The crop tool.
5) The brush tool and the associated tools in the same palette.
6) Dodge and burn tools.

You think PS is hard now, sheesh! It's virtually automated.
When I were a lad on PS2.5 nearly every trick had to be done by hand and you could only save files with 3 letter names.

It's something that I want to try but just haven't devoted the time too. It's quite daunting for a newbie with this stuff!
