Yes
It is Friday, I have had a couple of drinks and wondered what first lines of songs folks like. Here are a few for starters -

It’s been seven hours and 15 days.
Since you took your love away.

I am just a poor boy though my story’s seldom told.

You know I've smoked a lot of grass.
O' Lord, I've popped a lot of pills.

Dave

Ummmmm it's Saturday, think you've had more then a few

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour, but heaven knows I'm miserable now.

Maybe I don't really want to know
How your garden grows

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

Waiting for something to break
Left my heart out to bake
Nothing there in my glass
Wasn't never made to last

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses

Slow down, you're moving to fast...

Overhead the Albatross lays motionless upon the breeze...

I don't need no arms around me, I don't need no drugs to calm me ...

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold....

It was the third of June, another sleepy dusty delta day.

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again

Midnight suns bid moors farewell, retreats from charging dusk

Said red Molly to James, "That's a fine motorbike. A girl could feel special on any such like."

Every generation blames the one before and all of their frustrations come beating on your door

How can you see looking through those tears? Don't you know you're worth your weight in gold? I can't believe that you're alone in here let me warm your hands against the cold

Joan was quizzicle, studied pataphysical science in the home.

Tom, get your plane right on time.

Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine

Just a perfect day, drink sangria in the park, and then later, when it gets dark we go home. . . .

Here she comes, you,d better watch your step,. . .. she,s going to break your heart in two . . . its true

Shake shake shake shake, Jump jump jump jump, Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Now here she comes walkin'
Lookin' like a zoo.

I'm a little pimp with my hair gassed back
Pair a khaki pants with my shoe shined black

Hello,
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

We walked in the cold air
Freezing breath on a window pane
Lying and waiting

Winding your way down on Baker Street
Light in your head and dead on your feet

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair,
warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air

I've been walkin' these streets so long
Singin' the same old song
I know every crack in these dirty sidewalks of Broadway

One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces (it's not just the first line, it's the only line!)

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
(pretty much sums up my internet browsing :) )

Well I heard there was a secret chord
that David played and it pleased the Lord

Just had that haunting my headphones, awesome track.

Another fine choice

On promenades where drunks propose to lonely arcade mannequins
Where ceremonies pause at the jewelers shop display
Feigning casual silence in strained romantic interludes
Till they commit themselves to the muted journey home

It's time the tale were told
Of how you took a child
And you made him old

Men with beards
What are they hiding?

High tide, summer in the city,
The kids are looking pretty,
But isn't it a pity,
That the sunshine is followed by thunder,

She came from providence
the one in Rhode island

He was just a social drinker

There's a man I meet walks up our street

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears

Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor.
Reaching for the phone cause, I can't fight it any more.

I keep hearin' you're concerned about my happiness
But all that thought you're givin' me is conscience I guess

Money talks But it don't sing and dance And it don't walk

Dirty old river, must you keep rolling
Flowing into the night.

I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walkin' through the streets of Soho in the rain
He was lookin' for the place called Lee Ho ****s
Gonna get a big dish of beef chow mein

Back when I was a child, before life removed all the innocence.
My father would lift me high and dance with my mother and me and then.

O Superman. O judge. O Mom and Dad. Mom and Dad.

Ha! I was going to put that one but was disappointed because I thought the opening lyrics would be O O O O O O O etc :D

I tend to like opening lines that make me chuckle...

"I fancy I'll open a stationers. Stock quaint notepads for weekend pagans."

"Oh the snot has caked against my pants. It has turned into crystal."

"Ooh, you look cute in your battery-cable jumper, and your railroad spike heels. With your rear end dipped in rubber, like a Goodyear without wheels"

Cool thread

Some great choices here, These being my pick of the bunch so far.
A strange/eclectic selection I grant you

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories

My own additions would include:

I was born in the wagon of a travellin' show

There's no mistake, I smell that smell
It's that time of year again, I can taste the air

Sometimes I get to feelin'
I was back in the old days - long ago

You fill up my senses
Like a night in a forest
