I've recently bought a Pentax K-x and while I'm super happy with it, the lens that came with it (18-55 i think) is perhaps what's holding back my images.
I read an article on photocritic suggesting that a good place to start is a prime 50mm lens as this focal depth gives a viewpoint similar to the human eye. I've not figured out what type of photography is really 'my thing' yet, still playing around with a whole bunch of different stuff.
I am a bit confused by the sensor size to focal range thing though. What I think I've gathered so far is that what is known as a full-frame sensor refers to something the equivalent size to 35mm film (which I guess was the standard film size for non-digital slr's?) and that my camera has a smaller sensor than this, which means a larger focal range number, so a 50mm ends up being a 75mm or something. I've tried setting my zoom lens to around the 50mm point and it seems fairly zoomed in, moreso than I'd expect something that is like the human eye. Does this mean when I'm looking for a 50mm lens I am actually looking for a 35mm lens?
I have also been looking at a few options, I'm thinking either the Sigma AF 50mm f1.4 EX DG HSM or perhaps the Pentax SMC 50mm f1.4 FA, though again, I'm not sure a 50mm lens is actually what I should be getting?
Sorry, lots of questions, my first camera where I can change the lens!
