Yes
I have just taken delivery of a lovely 70-200 f4 L.

Got it of a nice chap from another forum for a good price.

Have only had a brief play as I am in work at the mo but damn it is sharp!! I also can't believe how quickly and quietly it focuses!

The build quality is a bit of a step up from my other lenses too, I'm hooked!

I know it is the "entry level" in the L range but I am well impressed. A good step up from my Sigma 70-300 APO.

Even the f4 aperture indoors seems doable with a slight ISO tweak but I think it will shine outdoors which is what I want it for really. Hoping to get some good shots of the kids especially when the light is brighter (like today)

Off to look down the back of the sofa for about a grand for a 24-70 L!!

** Update - Well here is one of my first efforts with the beast! I'm chuffed with the sharpness, colour rendition and pretty much everything about it!

Enjoy! I've also decided this will be my first L lens.

You can't go wrong with any of the 70-200L's - all super! Enjoy

Phil

Yeah was my first L as well. I loved it but unfortunately had to sell it as once I bought my 100-400 it never got used :(

It's an absolute belter of a lens, hope you get chance to have a good play tonight / this weekend, congrats and enjoy

Don't use it!!!! It will mean that you have to replace every lens with an L :P

Too late, I've already been weighing up which one next! Its like a disease --- "L"itis!

Cheers guys, off to Knowsley Safari Park tomorrow so will hopefully give it a good test there...

Ah I remember the day...my first L was the 300 f/2.8 IS :D

Cracking lens...I was upset the day I sold it but cheered up a bit when I got the 400 f/2.8 IS from the courier! :D:cool::lol:

Be aware it's a severe addiction, got 2 (70-200mm and 24-105mm) upsss I'm starting to get the tremors again :gag::cuckoo:

I got my 70-200 in November. It's such a belter of a lens. It's definately a slippery slope after that though. The 24-70 will be ordered from Kerso as early as humanly possible next week. Then going to trade up to the 70-200 2.8 IS around April if all goes well.
It's kind of sad that I have planned it out but they really are such beauties. In fact, I think if I'm lucky I'll be able to borrow a 24-70 this weekend just to get my mouth properly watering. And it won't even matter because they are weather-sealed lenses. Beauty!

Congrats! I know exactly how you feel as I too recently became a proud "parent" of a 70-200 f/4 L. What a step up from my Sigma!!

I think I've also got L"itis"

That was my first L lens too, to go on my 350D.

What happened next was a 24-105L, then a 17-40L, then a 30D, then a 1DIII, closely followed by a 300 2.8, swapping the 70-200 f/4 for a 70-200 f/2.8, adding a 50 1.4, a couple of 580EXII's, then most recently a 1DIV.

You're doomed!

My first L lens was a 70-200 f4 as well - christmas present off the wife and kids. My next lens was going to be a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 but my mate loaned me his Canon 24-70 L f2.8:thumbs: I really can't afford this L hobby so might have to make do with the Sigma:'(

Arguably the sharpest 70-200L of them all, not as versatile as the 2.8 though!

EDIT: In the right hands!

The 70-200 f4 L was also my 1st L lens, i brought mine about a month ago, and loving it, its super sharp, nice fast and quiet af, and its never off my 40d, im in the process of saving up for my next l lens........

Uh oh, sounds like my purchase is the first on a slippery and very expensive slope!

I hope my wife is this understanding. I think Ill put the 24-70 on the Christmas list now just in case!!

Do any of you guys use the lens indoors to take family photos with flash. I'm thinking of getting a dedicated flash for this?

Hi andy, ive used mine indoors on my 40d with the 430ex flashgun for portraits with excellent results, look forward to see some of your shots soon...............

Cool, flash is next on the list then. Oh no, it's started already without me realising!

Hopefully get some good uns tomorrow that I can post up...

That was my first L too!!
And a mighty fine lens it is.
Still loving mine.

Enjoy your new toy :woot:
(And prepare to be skint :D )

Nice one Andy!

The 70-200f4L was my very first step to the slippery slope of 'L'itis!

I'm sure you'll enjoy it, looking forward to seeing some results :)

Nice one mate, i am yet to get my first L glass but seriously looking at the 100 400.

hopefully soon.

It is a slippery slope indeed. You start with a "cheap" L, mine was the 17-40 f4 bought because it was the only one I could lay my hands on quickly when my Sigma broke.

The L loviliness bit, and I was doomed ..... the trouble is that it gets worse when you discover larger apertures. After that, only the widest will do.

Enjoy it whilst you can. It's easy to live with large aperture L glass but living with only one kidney kind of takes the shine off it though. It wasn't my wisest funding option, but it was quick.

I got my first L last weekend - a 70-200 f4 IS! It's brilliant too!

We should start a "L" addicts group!

"My name is Andy and I'm addicted to Canon L series lenses!"

Picture added at the top, more in the nature and Zoo section

That was my first L too!!

And mine. It's simply a fantastic lens, light, sharp, quick focussing, great contrast and colour rendition. £ for £ I'd say it's the best lens Canon has. :)

That is very nice. You can see all of his individual hairs !
