Well i'm looking to buy my first flash gun and to be honest its hurt my brain a lot lol.

I use a nikon D80 so and have read all about i-ttl and that older nikon speedlites that just use ttl will not work unless on auto (flash works it all out).

Now I dont have loads of cash to spend so sb600 and above are out of the question. Roughly I have £60-70 to spend.

Now i've seen a a couple in that range but dont know if i'd be better off getting a cheaper ittl compatible flash such as a....

Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-5

Or

Metz Mecablitz 24 AF-1

Or

Nissin Speedlite Di622.

Or if I would be better off getting a second hand Nikon unit and using it on auto.

Photo wise i've been reading books on fill flash and all sorts and would really like to try it out, im just not sure on what flash would suit me best.

Any advice you can offer would be a massive help.

Both Metz and Nissing are good. I would pick the strongest one with TTL and manual mode.

Could I be as bold as to suggest you look at the Yongnuo YN465 for Nikon. Cheap as chips on eBay. iTTL works when mounted on the camera. Reasonable manual control (full-1/64 power). Plays nicely with Yongnuo RF-603 triggers if you want to get adventurous later.

I have three of 'em - no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the advice chaps, im looking at the yn468-ii now and from reading some reviews its seeming perfect for my needs. Ill keep you updated.

I use an SB600 but also have a Sigma 500 DG Super. It works in TTL and can be optically triggered off camera too (although the Nikon pre-flash confuses it off-camera and it fires to early, corrected by firing the on camera flash in manual or using a remote trigger set). I picked it up on here for about £50, there are usually some on Fleebay too.
