First DSLR :)

Good Morning All,

My names Danny, im 25 from Sheffield

Always been into taking pictures (mainly on phones) I have always had mates with camera do my car photography work for me.

So a about 2 months ago I decided to get my self a dslr, I bought a Nikon D3200 mainly because my mate had a nikon. The D3200 as it has more of an interactive menu and thought for the money it was the one for me.

Im loving it really, progressing with the camera and just teaching my self how to use it properly, on here for advice and a good time.

My photography so far is mainly automotive, which is what im really into, hoping to move to urbex and scene photography though.

Welcome Danny,

Nice photo's but a lot of them look very dark, maybe you could use a higher ISO setting or lighten them a little in Post Production software (i.e. lightroom or adobe photoshop - both offer 30 day fully functional free trials).

Unless of course, they are meant to be as dark as that?

In the dark ones the car is supposed to be the main focus aswell as the sky. But im still learning

What would a higher ISO do get more detail in? (still learning here :))
 
I am not going to pretend to be an expert or a pro I am not. I am at best a novice and I have only assisted in semi-pro car shoots just for giggles however I am experienced in being new.

Take time to learn the aspects of photography and what affects exposure. The best way to do this I feel is magazines and websites only when you truly understand how to use your camera to it's maximum potential will you be able to capture images such as this.

I have to ask though, why do you shoot everything on an angle? I find it hard to look at your photos when horizontals are on a diagonal. Also buy borrow and steal

Edit: To answer your question ISO affects the sensitivity of the sensor to light. A higher ISO = shorter exposure however more noise.

That range is shot well pal!

The angle thing was just a different look on things, not really been questioned on it before lol. Just trying what i can do really pal, no proper meaning behind the angle.

Buy borrow and steal?

Cheers on the ISO answer i thought higher was longer lol :)

Lighting gear, I don't mean just flashes, I mean any type of lighting I have seen people use these to light interiors.

I have used work lamps to light scenes like this.

I also find location makes a huge difference on shots involving cars, if it is too busy then it detracts the attention from the car. I find dereliction, plain landscapes and plain industrial / factory environments go really well with cars.

This is a place I scouted out for someone for a landy shoot. Haven't seen the photos yet but apparently it was the photographers favourite location now.
