Not sure whether this thread is best here or over on netmums, but lets give it a go.
So my daughters second birthday is coming up and I am scrapping the barrel for gift ideas, I mean how many cuddly toys does one girl need?!

She is scarily good at picking up technology, she can operate my wife's smartphone to the point she can find her favourite shows on iplayer and cast them to the TV, and loves going around taking photos. So it seems a little camera might be good for her.

The V-tech Kidizoom Duo looks like it might be pretty good, but there are quite a few other options out there.

Has anyone else got their kids started young and if so, what camera did you go with?

We got our lad a V-tech several years ago & he loved it. Fairly rugged too.
Presumably `phone cams` will give similar (or better) image quality these days though?
He uses his I-pad nowadays.

Yeah I had though of just giving her an old phone. But I wouldn't trust her to keep it in one piece for long outside on hard ground so something rugged is needed. Also, she wouldn't necessarily understand that is a camera, she ill know it is a phone and will try to use it like she does with my wife's. We don't mind her using a phone now and again when supervised but we are against giving such young children phones and tablets to keep them entertained, so it needs to be something that is only a camera.

I bought my then 2-year old daughter a Fuji instant camera and she loved it. We were living in Hong Kong at the time and knock off instant film was cheap so it wasn't a dent to my pocket as she went mental snapping away - when we moved back to Dubai at the end of 2016 I forgot how expensive it could be and have had to ration her film. It lasted numerous drops, immersions in water and usual child like manual handling. When we left the camera in the back of a taxi she was upset so as a present I bought her a Leica sofort a few months ago as I had a rush of blood to the head. I'd stick with the cheap hello kitty look Fuji!

For us having your instant pictures develop and be able to stick them in a scrapbook is better than having to do faff around with anything digital.

My daughter was 5 when I got her the Fuji instant and she loves it. Previously I had given my son my old (10 years) Sony compact, probably worth £20 so no probs if he dropped it.

We had thought of a Polaroid but he price of film is quite high but agree that an instant physical print. Maybe something for when she is slightly older and can put some thought into it, last time she ran off with a phone she came back with 80 photos of her foot.

I have a selphy cp800 6x4 printer so we can have some printing sessions. I'm edging towards one of the fully kid orientated cameras for now, they seem cheap enough, and if she gets on well with it them maybe we can move on to something a bit closer to a real camera.
