Hey guys :)
After seeing a light painting of a motorbike yesterday, it gave me some inspiration to try it out and see what i could produce with light painting.

So here we have it, took about 15 shots to get the one i wanted, it is all one 16 second exposure, taken with a Samsung NV3 P&S camera.
The photo has been slightly PP'd but only to clean it up a bit.

Please tell me what you all think.

that's nice. I like using light painting to expose the area you are shooting (very useful for urbex) but this kind of light painting can be used to fantastic effect as well.
 
Looks good, next youll be getting loads of tools, lol light sabers, bike wheel, this was my first go before I got hooked LOL

Definitely not, its great to see your pics, I love number one!! And that bike tool looks pretty awsome, think i'll definitely have to get a laser pointer and other similar things now :D

Hi Steve

Thanks mate, the first one was made using the long rod one in the tools pic, its 30 battery op, LCD lights (NON Flashing Christmas Lights) taped to it in clusters of 3, the pic withe the tops is made with the same tool, I used it at different angles and turned 360 degs 3 times for each top, the wheel is rolled along the floor to produce like a wave effect, try a search on flickr for more LP shots

:D Hehe, I like that! While it is true that getting your gear set up for it is a pain in the back side, as well as waiting until it's dark to do it, but once you get going it is great fun!
After looking at this photo, I can't wait for it to get dark again and start experimenting with LED torches!
 
Dealxtreme is the place to go for lights for light-painting. A load of tat, obviously - but cheap tat.

i thought light painting...or painting with light meant using a strobe and a camera on B and illuminating a scene by walking around and flashlighting certain areas..??

It's widely accepted that this is more or less right... Illuminating a scene/object with a light source... Technically speaking, directing light at the lens used to 'draw' or 'paint' readdresses and reinvents the term, in my opinion. Man Ray created a series and called it 'space writing', and I consider 'light painting' as a term not so far removed once broken down in context...

On the whole, as long as people 'get' what's going on, then personally I have no problem with what people call each respective medium in conversation...

When a client calls me up and asks me if I will do 'light painting', I just accept that they know what I do, and don't bother getting bogged down in semantics because on the whole, everyone is singing from the same hymn book, or something... :D


Just for the record, the OP's example appears to have 'light painting' on the subject's face (note the halo does not illuminate the top of the head)...

I love spinning wire wool... years ago when i juggled and did a great deal of "Poi" we used to spin wool everywhere... you can get some lovely effects on the beach, just after the tide has gone out...

not "Wirewool" spinning or "light painting exactly, but here they are.....

Will try and find the originals as they are better quality, havent looked for them in over 5 years.
