I'm looking for a second manual flash to fire off camera wireless (canon), i currently use a 430 EX II and a pair of Yongnuo 622's, I'm looking at the cheap YN-560 II non TTL but I'm unsure if I can run this without a trigger in slave mode or if i would have to buy a second 622.

Are there any other options flash wise which i could get to use with this setup, it would be nice not to need a second trigger if that's possible, but if I need to get one I'll get a 622 and whatever flash.

Thanks.

Phil.

It depends how much control you want . Slave mode will only fire the flash , if you wanted to change the power you would have to do it on the flash itself .v

Manual adjustment on the flash isn't a big deal. Although it is nice to control it from the back of the camera. No clue how the camera menu handles two different flash outputs tho.

I think even with another 622 the flash would still need to be adjusted manually as it only recognises basic signals . If you're wanting to use the 430 in TTL you need to set the 560 to S2 mode so that it ignores the pre flash .

What John said, with the price of current kit I'd buy another 622 and a YN 565.

Though in answer to your question the 560 will fire in slave mode as a dumb manual flash

Thanks for the replies, really helpful, I'd like to use the second flash out of sight so would have to be a trigger and not an optical slave I reckon. I think another 622 and a 565 would do the job and would kind of give me a good equivalent-ish backup to my 430 as well.
