hey,

I've rented a local hall for tomorrow night, got my backgrounds etc, but was was wondering if I can use my SB900's with the studio lights?

Probably like to use one of the sb900's with a snoot for a hair light.

Now, the strobes on there own its easy, and the lencarta studio lights it's just a case of using the wireless trigger that they came with. Can the sb900 be triggered with the studio lights? and if so, how?

I haven't got wireless triggers for them all.
 
Harvey Nikon - as FITP says, they'll trigger in slave (SU-4) mode but to get the same colour balance you may need to gel them.

I regularly use my SB800s with studio flash because we have a very small studio space so a speedlight placed here or there can just add a nice little highlight or fill. I actually like the difference in WB you get; it seems to be a whiter light than my Bowen softboxes, probably because the softboxes do give a slight warm cast.

The main light from the left is the softbox, giving the warmer light. The whiter highlight down the right side of the guy's face is the speedlight.
 
problem you'll have is the speed at which you can shoot. Recycle times for studio strobes is mabe 1-2 seconds. A camera flash can be anything up to around 6 seconds for a full power recycle - longer when the batteries die!
 
cool, I knew it'd be something simple :D

I shall have a play tonight and see how it goes :) I can manage ok with just the 2 lights, but fancy using a black background instead of white :)

Black is much easier. Use one on your subject 9ideally fairly close so it doesn't spill light onto the background) and the other as a hair light.
