Hi, is anyone else feeling really angry about all these stupid fires that people are setting and having the fire service running around depleted for real action where they are needed. I was up North Wales last week or so Aberglaslyn area, and in the beautiful countryside, taking snaps, you could see plumes of smoke. then looking out of a hospital window, south wales, at the lovely mountains, (visiting) and a black scar where there had been another fire earlier in the day or two.

someone somewhere is going to get hurt by possibly being caught up in them out walking? just wondered..

You don't mean heather burning do you ?

oh I hope not:) no actually, in Tonypandy in S Wales there has been some serious fires set on purpose. I didnt realise they do heather burning. silly me....

I heard a little on the radio on this a few weeks ago and it's apparently often down to rival school kids trying to outdo each other. Little bastards!

Could be swaling but it's a bit late for that. Could be smokers flicking the tab ends out of the window. Could be kids "playing". Could be so many things.

There was a feature on the one show last week about it.
It's kids doing it for a laugh. They followed one fire crew who were on one job for 8 hours, then when they finished the got called out to another. Helicopters were dropping water and they had atvs to get the hoses up the hills.. Insane amount of money it must cost.
When they find the kids doing it, I hope the parents get sent the bill.

It was happening in the local hills just a few weeks ago, almost every day it was in the news.

It's gone quite lately though, maybe the weather, maybe they've burned all they could.

It's gone quite lately but they were all deliberate, all 600+ of them. since April 1st around south Wales.

I used to live in Tonypany :)

Yes makes me angry the damage it must do to wildlife must be horrendous

been no deliberate ones in north wales as far as i,m aware ,the smoke you saw was probably english holiday cottages going up :naughty:

we have some lovely contryside down here too. pity the kids cant recognise that.

I am from Scotland and I know it as heather burning. So it is known as both in Scotland.

Muirburn is the legal name for it, with regards to the written Law I believe but as it consists of burning heather it's a bit academic.
