Firefox 4 - a heads-up

We've been having some slow Internet problems at home for the last day or 2 where pages were oh so slow to load or they would timeout & on other occasions images wouldn't display

Whilst it looked like it was a Virgin BBand issue we swapped over from FF4 to IE8 on both laptops and the problems instantly vanished

My other half says she's found quite a few pages about FF4 & memory handling/flash issues so we're going back to v3.6 for the time being

This is just a heads up that might help someone if they're cursing their ISP where it might just be a Firefox problem

I couldn't find out if a fix is due so I'll be using Opera & 3.6 for the time being.

But the fanboys still insist it is better than anything produced by Microsoft.
 
I've yet to see any reason to change from FF3 to FF4....
 
I don't seem to have any speed issues either (although I am a FF fan). I did have problems when I had two versions of McAfee running at the same time - FF definitely didn't like that - but no problems since then.
 
I've not had any problems with ff4, but then I see no advantages over 3. I've never really had any problems with IE, though I did think the interface after IE6 was a bit clunky, however i think this has been put right in 9,which I actually really like - shame too many pages are poorly designed therefore incompatible. Chrome, hmm, may work ok but not liking the T&Cs. Not sure what they say now, but when the first one was released there was a clause stating google own anything submitted using their browser, so blog posts, picture uploads etc. I've heard this had to be ammended but still, the fact they tried seems a bit odd.
 
If you don't like the Chrome T&Cs and Google's attitude to data then SRWare's Iron browser offers all of the advantages of Chrome with none of the baggage. It's based on Chromium the same as Chrome but maintains the open source principles :)
 
I shall certainly take a look. Something else to add to the endless list of things I install in the hunt for perfection :D
 
Same problem as the OP, FF4 very slow on Virgin Media BB plus crashing numerous times.
Now using Chrome with no problems and it's fast.
 
No problems with FF4 for me. Did not notice any difference in performance when I upgraded from an earlier version.

Chrome is faster to start up, than FF or IE for me. But since i installed 8gigs of RAM firefox runs beautifully once it has started up.
 
I've got FF4 and no issues, got IE9 i think the latest one is, but not used it and Chrome.

Now chrome is doing what the OP posted, random time outs on some sites, not on others. Its very odd.

exactly this. I've just ordered a new desktop, I doubt if I'll even install Firefox. (actually, I probably will if I ever get round to sorting my website, as I'll need to test the compatibility etc.)
 
Not noticed any problems with FF4.

The bit I really like about it is having it installed on my phone and being able to browse the same tabs/history/bookmarks on my phone as I do on my laptop.
 
dislike chrome intensely, dislike safari nearly as much, but given I still cant run anything that uses java [for example, f1 live timing] in FF4 on the macs, have to use safari for that. It is very very annoying, and if anyone has the install file for FF3 for mac they can provide me with, I would be eternally grateful :bang: ;)

oh, should say, that apart from the java issue, FF4 has been fine otherwise.
