Firefox 2.0 available

lol beat me to it :)

except I know where you can get it now ;)

It's available now if you really want it (The final build)

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0/

It's still being distributed to mirrors I think, before it goes final and public.
However, be warned if you upgrade, there are a few issues.

The main one for me, is that Alt-S doesnt work anymore, and I use that to submit posts on these forums (and other vbulletin forums).

I can't seem to find anything to use to update firefox in that link you posted - maybe my brain isnt awake yet :shake:

Sorry you have to click on win32, then on en-GB to find the program to download :) My bad :)

shouldnt that be FF2 looks identical to IE7, seeing as IE7 has been out a little while? Typical FF, copying all MS good ideas....

/runs

someones nicked the tabs, i like tabs in IE7

Tabs are there.

the one on their FTP site is borked :(
Well for me anyway

Dont download that one!

Its officially out today, so later there will be a big update on the site and lots of links. Just hold off for a bit and everything will be fine :)

Choosing to open new pages in a new tab (in options) doesn't seem to work for me, they open in the existing tab anyway.

I always use mouse3 (I.E pressing the mouse wheel down on my mouse) to open something in a new tab.

Think I will wait for the propper version before I download it. Don't want to have to use IE *shudder*

i like the tab thats ready to use in IE7, nice that is, i closed the 2 open tabs in FF when it opened and now they are gone away! why does everything i love leave me???

Firefox is now functioning fine for me :D

IE7 wont bleedin install though :(

IE7 requires Service Pack 2 and a legit copy of Windows XP. It won't install if you're missing either of those.

Ive been using FF for some time, is there any need to upgrade to v2... any major changes or benefits?

Id expect when FF2 is ready to roll out properly they would distribute it thru they built in updater.

It is a a slightly better product TBF
Better tabs, control, looks & stuff

I adhered to all the rules regarding the install and even the Kb stuff but it just wont install
Not that its that important just the misses uses it and then only like once a month ish.

tabs are there, lol, silly matty..

b****r, finally got 2.0 and it works fine, apart from none of my old themes or plugins work :(

Forgot how nasty it is in this kind of white/grey theme :( ah well

should it be an automatic upgrade?

I clicked help/check for updates and it said no updates are available.

The auto update system hasn't gone live with 2.0 yet. I guess they're waiting for bandwidth to come back after the initial "OMG 2.0!" spree.

I upgraded to FF2 a few days ago.
First two things that struck me are the liquid stylee theme (eurgh) & individual close buttons for tabs (Opera // IE7 stylee). I prefer to have one close button, but a quick rummage in about:config revealed browser.tabs.closebuttons - change that to 3 and you're away again with one close button.

Theme and other minor differences aside, the new predictive search function is occasionally handy - and occasionally annoying.
I've had FF V.2 crash altogethor on me 3 times now - I can recall two crashes with previous versions over a six month period.

All in all it's quite different - but I don't necessarily like it.

I did try one of the RC's but came back to 1.5 for a couple of reasons.
One, being the extra close buttons on every tab (so thanks for the above tip ).
Two, was that AdBlock didn't work, and nor did any of my other extensions (Greasemonkey, Fasterfox and IEView).

But the main thing for me was Alt-S. I use it on most forums I'm on to submit posts, and they've just assigned it to the History menu!.

Has that not caused a big stir during the betas?

I hated that when I used the RC's. Adblock Plus is a much better version of adblock that is currently developed, and does work.

Greasemonkey and an extension similar to IEView called "IETab" both work.

I don't use fasterfox.

Alt S makes me mad.

The feedback group has been amok with complaints:

(he - I just pressed Alt S to try and send that :()

I've been using firefox since it was called phoenix, and have moved up to 2.0.
Not had any problems, a couple of extension don't work but nothing I can't live with out.

Don't like the new spell checker and have gone back to Spellbound II, did do the remove tab close hack and change the theme back to 1.5 style.

No crashes yet

Well I've gone up to FF2 now as I've just installed Vista, and with the above tweak about browser.tab.closebuttonsp (changing it to 3) - thanks Hoodi,

I've now installed all my extensions, including Adblock Plus instead of Adblock (thanks leodin).

The Alt-S thing is a big bugbear though, any way round it?

Well I'm not back on Firefox 2 (again...I did go back to 1.5 for a while while I was on Vista). Alt-S is back to normal again (after tinkering...thanks leodin  ).

I would like the close buttons on the tabs to be back to one close button on the right hand side again though (as opposed to being on each tab). Anyone got any ideas how to do that?
