Fingal - RIP - 1999-2012 (my Springer Spaniel)

Many thanks for the last comments - they're all appreciated.

PS

I belong to a busy dog forum and today a very sad youngster posted a RIP thread after experiencing this for the first time.

Whilst I'm still sad at the passing of my Fingal it did at least remind me that I'm old enough and ugly enough to know (from past dog losses) that time heals and the good memories remain.

I've always had dogs around, ever since I was a kid and these times are the most difficult and heart breaking.

I've always had a soft spot for Springers and their boundless energy and there are a couple that we meet regularly on our walks that have a whale of a time with my dog.

I came across this years ago, written by Jerome K. Jerome and taken from "Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow" and it has meant a great deal to me over the years

"He looks up at you with his big, true eyes, and says with them, "Well you've always got me, you know. We'll go through the world together, and always stand by each other, won't we?"

He is very imprudent a dog is. He never makes it his business to inquire whether you are in the right or the wrong, never bothers as to whether you are going up or down life's ladder, never asks whether you are rich or poor, silly or wise, sinner or saint. You are his pal. That is enough for him and come luck or misfortune, good repute or bad, honour or shame, he is going to stick to you, to comfort you, guard you and if need be, give his life for you"

You cannot buy a friendship of that quality - you can only earn it and from what you've said, Fingal shared a great life and many happy memories with you.

Sincere best wishes - rhody
