anyone else having problems?
im on summer holidays and cannot find ANYTHING, ive been looking since may and no ones hiring.

need money!
 
yep i have been looking for a new job for months now :( nothing happening

its driving me absolutely crazy, ive got so much stuff coming up including my birthday, if i dont get a job in teh next few weeks i cant even celebrate it. so gutting.

i do have a job i just hate it with the passion of a burning of a 1000 suns.
just been turned down for a internal promotion because i a "to valuable in my currant role" GTF i hate it.
 
From what I'm hearing on the train there are a lot of people not taking on new staff at the moment. Only places that seem to want people short term are supermarket type places :(
 
Yeah depends in what field your after, my company just hired a few, but they are highly skilled jobs, but saying that all where internal transfer's dont think they can hire externally due to having no more training space left. But i also know alot of people in the construction arena and thats drying up very fast. TBH i am very glad i transfered when i did.
 
id be happy doing a ****** data input job. ive been looking all afternoon and only found a handful of jobs. its ridiculous
 
have you been to adecco ? they have loads of people in are place, its only temp stuff but gets the pennys in :D
 
use google rss reader and sign up to rss feeds of the kind of jobs you are looking for. that way you can see all your jobs in one place instead of messing about.

this may also sound completely crazy (to some people), but the job centre is actually a place for finding jobs.. weird huh?
Go in there, ask for advice (or go on one of the job computers) and you'll probably have a job by the end of the week.

i have done, everyone in town has my CV, everyone internet site has my CV, ive been badgering both all yesterday and today. meh:(

Have you thought of working with adults with learning difficulties? There are pro and cons and you have to have an easy going temperament and be over 21. However you can join the 'bank' and when they can't cover a shift they phone bank members to ask if you want to do it so you can pick your hours and maybe carry it on when your not on holiday eg weekends, sleep-in etc.

Pay not good but can be a lot of fun. As I say, pro's and con's, just an idea.

I think manager take on there family or friends for the summer, not sure though but that is what i think :D

Even then... I'm waiting for four supermarkets, two wholesalers, three logistics warehouses, and two bookies to get back to me on jobs I've applied for, and from talking to their HR people, there are barely any jobs and masses of people applying.

Nepotism does happen, in short term jobs, its very easy to hide.

In the mean time have you looked at earning money online. Doing consumer survey's and that sort of thing. Might not be much but while your online you may as well be earning something.

my mum does it, cant stand it.


im not looking for a career, this is just summer work before i go back to uni, ive got a £1,000 overdraft i need to repay
 
hah i wish.

had two calls today from agencies, *******s woke me up :(
first one offered me a permanent job, so no.
second one wanted me for the whole summer and i have a week of work in cov possibly coming up and reading festival. again, no.
 
well it was the only place that accepted me out of about 80 jobs i applied for it costs me 10 pounds a day to work there

err, not really. i wish that was the case, ive already shelled out £170 for reading and promised my friend.

Take offered job, go to reading, see if they sack you... if not you win, if they do, its not a massive loss you had some work. Or resign just before the festival.
 
cant, got to sign contracts blah blah blah. its a lost cause. ive got a bunch more to hear from still, its fine.
 
If you're just after a permanent job just go for Mcdonals or a bar or a supermarket or something. It's not great, but you get paid and it's all experience.
 
its difficult to find work during the summer at uni, theres so many people in the same boat and very few jobs that a company cares to train someone up for when they;re only gonna be working 12 weeks or so maximum, it simply isnt worth their while to do it. i certainly couldnt find anything when i was at uni, instead i took a part time evening job, which i could do and just got extra shifts during holidays.

the fact that your being selective over when you can and cant work just makes you less and less atractive to prospective employers
 
hardly, when i worked at waitrose they were fine with holiday, this is a ****ing call centre anyway, theyll probably call me back in a few days because no one actualyl wants to work there.
 
You could have a look on gumtree as well as lots of recruitment company sites such as reed or monster...dont get too disheartened, iv just had the same thing but found something after a few weeks through a local newspaper ,although it was a permanent job...just keep looking everywhere and maybe try not to be too particular about what sort of work you do and stuff...any work is good experience...
 
I am having the same trouble! I have 30 quid left to my name and I have been looking since may its kinda embarrising!

In my rural spot a whole bunch of people with young families have gone self-employed (I naively assume HMRC know about them) as cleaners, gardeners, decorators, dog-walkers etc., charging less than £10/hour.
 
i got work in may since looking for it sinse september. no one liked me or wanted to employ me hense why i aplied for 80 odd jobs and the only one i got reply from was the pleasure beach i even got turned down for a toilet cleaning job
