Hi guys.

I'd love an iPhone - but cannot afford, nor justify the price of one!

So, I already have my sim card / deal which I am more than happy with.

Now looking to upgrade my phone.

Ideally I want something that has 3g, wi-fi, GPS, basic camera, possible (but not essentially) a 3.5mm headphone jack.

So far, the nokia 5230 is looking appealing. I know it doesn't have wi-fi, but has everything else, the GPS Ovi maps for life look good and at less than £70 the price is canny too!

Can anyone recommend any others? (Or give me their iPhone ;) ).

Cheers.

Anth.

Before my Iphone I had a Nokia N95 and was very impressed with it and seeing as they are fairly old probably cheap now.

Yep - the N95 look like nice a phone indeed - trouble is finding somewhere that sells them cheap enough and still has some in stock!!!

Nokia 5800 as well.
Has everything you need and a touchscreen.
You can also put Garmin satnav on it easily (better than Ovi)

look no further get a Nokia E72 very good smartphone or buy my Iphone off me for £350 ^_^

A week ago I would of been able to help you out, but alas I just sold it.

Having had both the Silver N95 and the black 8gb version I would suggest the older silver version if you do look at them. The silver one allows you to swap memory cards which means you can install the TOM TOM software to it. Worked an absolute treat for me...:)

Some lovely phones suggested here.

Also some differences in prices too. With the 5230 available for £70 NEW, the price is playing a big part too!! Is it possible to install the gramin / tom tom software on this phone?

Looking at used prices now too though ;)

You can have my Vivaz for £150 ;)

2nd this

I have the 5800 with Garmin mobile XT, really good phone and plenty apps for it to just like the iphone. Also has stereo speakers so music on it sounds great!
Can't go wrong with it.

To really offer you some advice we would need to know:

Who are you currently with?
What your package includes (mins, txts etc)?
How much the package is a month?
What phone are you currently using?
What sort of budget are you looking at spending?

O2 xda exec. I had one when they first came out. a nice little gem and i think you can pick them up rather cheap now!

Oh yeah buy secondhand if you have a low budget.

I had / still have an N95 i also had TomTom on it but to use TomTom you needed a separate GPS receiver (also have one of these). The N95 i still have is brand new and never used but i think it's locked to t-mobile (not a huge issue).

Personally i would stretch the budget and go for the iPhone, if you wait until next weeks expected announcement the new iPhone will be with us pretty soon so there's going to be quite a few 3G and 3GS for sale.

I had Nokia 5800 for almost a year now and if you're planning on using the GPS feature regularly then my advice is that you shouldn't expect to rely on it too much. Mine has proven rather useless when I needed to use it. I either get bad signal or it just takes me nowhere near where I'm suppose to be. Internet isn't too bad although not as snappy as some other brands (S60 interface isn't the newest by today's standards) and applications are nowhere near as plentiful as what the competition has to offer (although it's I don't use them anyway). Still for the price the phone does deliver a lot of bells and whistles, camera is good for your typical drunken facebook pictures and you can use any headphones with it since it has the 3.5mm jack.

Cheers for the advice folks - will look into all of those and keep an eye out for iPhone bargains !
Also, someone asked about my current contract / details / ....

Virgin.
300mins. Unlimited Texts. Unlimited internet.
Free calls to other Virgin Mobiles (the wife ! ).
£10 per month.

It's a pretty decent deal by comparison, so not really interested in changing my deal - unless there really is something MUCH better!

Phone - currently on a Samsung thing. I think it's a UG600 or something. My mate gave it to me - has all the usual stuff and connects to the web - albeit at about 56k speeds!!!

Budget wise - £100 ish - willing to go higher or lower depending on what's available.

Cheers

PS - the GPS part isn't vital as I already have one for the car - just thought it might come in handy for times I don't have mine with me.

Heh I haven't really seen any of those I-phone bargains, they seem to have a pretty tight grip on that phone when it comes to contracts. What sort of contract are you on at the moment, is it a sim only one?

Was in the same position as you, wanted the iPhone but the cost was way too much, opted for Nokia 5800 and after the first few weeks of thinking I should have gone with the iPhone now more than happy with my decision, the Nokia is fantastic, ovi maps for life and the ovi app store is getting more and more apps each week.
