Congratulations on your purchase! Which lens did you go for?

Aren't Park Cameras just Brilliant!

well done its a great camera i love mine!

some people don't like ken rockwell (i wonder why), however on his site he goes through a basic menu guide and setup for using the D90.

I recommend you take a look.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d90/users-guide/index.htm

Personal view, D90:thumbs: . . . KR's set up is a bit off with setting 'Auto ISO' . . . personally I prefer to choose my ISO, you can set it so that its shows in the viewfinder, so you have a reminder. He also tends to go a bit intens on his colour balance/saturation choice . . . IMHO

However he has a great enthusiasm for the product . . .

If you are new to this business, take a step back, choose your ISO; 200 in good light, 400 is OK on the D90 when the light is less than ideal, shade or woods for instance. Set the camera to 'P', an auto mode that allows you to spin the setting wheels, watch how things change. Then move onto 'Aperture Priority', gives semi auto control.

These two setting will keep you going while you get used to things over a few months, from there, its up to you how far you wish to go into manual controls. Often the advise is GO MANUAL FROM THE START!!!! . . . thats fine, but it will be a frustrating and rocky path that way? IMHO

congratulations...post some pictures when you are all set up.

Congratulations - I am contemplating a D90 too... had a look at one a few days ago (along with a used D300) and really liked it.

Get some pics up !

Congrats. Its a fantastic camera am I'm really chuffed its what I bought to get back into SLR photography.

Just keep playing with it (not on auto) and the basics will start to make sense.

I had a D90 for a year before I got a upgrade to D300. It's a fantastic camera and congrats to you.

lol tell me about it:) my next lens will either be a macro lens or a nice zoom lens.

congrats! Where from?? I want one........ soon!
I wanted to buy new to have the warranty - and from a local shop - so got it in my local Camulet as they were the best price (got it with the 18-105 kit lens).

I've been using a friend's for the past month or so to try it out before I bought one and its a great camera. Its sooo nice to finally have my own!:D

Can tell you are happy by the number of :D

lol

Park Cameras good then? See they are offering the D700 for £1700, £60 cheaper than most. Are they UK cameras or grey imports?

Amazon dropped their price today
For body only? Just looked and 18-105 kit price is same as it was on Friday - currently cheaper in Camulet.

I actually enjoyed the whole 'purchasing' experience - its an early Christmas gift from family and we all went to the shop together to get it, and another friend happened to be in at the same time buying a filter so lots of banter. Nothing wrong with buying online, but on this occasion, the actual walking into the shop and walking out with my new camera was part of the enjoyment.

Call me old fashioned but i much prefer buying from a shop even if i pay a bit more especially on these type of items. If something goes wrong with it i like the fact i can just take it into the shop and speak to somone.

yep body only, £70 cheaper an amazon than calumet.

That's a good difference! But I wanted the kit as my first DSLR and thought the 18-105 would be a good starter lens. Though I notice the Camulet kit price has just gone back up again today.

I do too, especially as this was my first DSLR. And the shop is 10 mins drive from home, with parking right outside the door and friendly and helpful staff.

I got my camera from Jessops as its close to where i live but as it happens was the cheapest also at the time. I also bought the 35mm f1,8 prime recently from there as i was walking past and had some money to spend. I couldve got it cheaper but obviously they let me have a go of it etc so i just got it there.

Yes sometimes convenience of a local shop, being able to pop in when going past, is worth it, and often the price difference isn't that much. You're not just buying an item, there is an element of personal attention, someone taking the time to let you try an item, talk over options, allow you to compare things side by side.

If we all go to local shops to try stuff, then go away and buy online, we'll end up with less local shops to go to...

I'm thinking of that 35mm prime or the 50mm, can't decide which.

I got my D90 from Jessops - it's a 10 min walk from my office, there's plenty of Jessops shops around if I need to go to one, and I managed to get it on interest free.

I'll probably look around when I get extras like my flashgun/tripod/lenses, and only get them from Jessops/Calumet (and that's even closer to the office than Jessops) if they are similar price to the decent online stores. Amazon (being careful to order from Amazon themselves) seems pretty good on price, and from what I've heard are good on the customer service side.
